In the current issue of Nursing Outlook, a panel paper from the 2022 Emory Business Case for Nursing Summit focuses on resilience in nursing by addressing the importance of organizational culture in nursing retention, the role of leadership in reducing nurse turnover, and strategies for how to build resilience systems that counteract or eliminate sources of moral distress. These strategies (developed using a strong organizational framework) include “hear me, protect me, prepare me, support me, and care for me": "Hear me" refers to valuing and acting on voices from the frontlines; "protect me" refers to building resilience safeguards into the healthcare environment; "prepare me" refers to ensuring nurses have the training and resources necessary to provide safe and competent care; "support me" means recognizing the effort clinicians contribute may take a toll on their personal lives and families; and "care for me" refers to an organization's commitment to reciprocate when a clinician needs help. Read the full article, which also includes a working definition of resilience and a cost rationale for resilience programs, here: https://lnkd.in/gfDx3aw9 Thank you to Tim Cunningham, Brianna Caza, Rose Hayes, MA, RN, BSN, Sandy Leake, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, FAAN, and Pam Cipriano

This important book examines how nursing homes experienced the COVID-19 pandemic, the impacts on its residents and staff, and how the industry can be reformed to better meet the demands of a similar health crisis in the future. Data-led and richly illustrated with insightful charts throughout, the book begins with a thorough overview of what occurred in nursing homes during the pandemic, situated within a broader perspective of the regulatory system in which long-term care operates in different regions of the world. It then moves on to detail those issues which made managing nursing homes during the pandemic so challenging, before providing an insightful analysis into how nursing homes can reform their policies and practices ahead of a possible future pandemic. Written by a gerontological nurse and Director of Nursing with over thirty years of experience in the long-term care industry, this book will interest researchers and practitioners across public health and nursing.

The Council Health Survey showed no overall score changes, but increased attendance and positive feedback signal intervention effectiveness, especially for new nurses. • Amid COVID-19 challenges, this project showcases resilience in sustaining governance and engagement during crises. Check out the full article to learn more about our methods, interventions, and this project's impactful outcomes. Here is the link: https://lnkd.in/eJdbaCpY.
