When the Curtain Falls: The Encore Performance of Our Everyday Unsung Heroes It was the final performance of the school play—a production put together with more passion than budget, more enthusiasm than experience. As the audience clapped and the curtain fell, Mrs. Langley, the director and a seasoned English teacher, gathered her young cast backstage for a final huddle. Her words were simple, yet heartfelt: "What you did on stage was more than act; you brought stories to life, taught lessons without a textbook, and reached hearts beyond these walls." Little did the students know, the school had almost cut the drama program due to budget constraints. But Mrs. Langley, determined not to let that happen, volunteered her time after school, seeking donations for costumes and set pieces, proving her belief in the program's value for student growth and confidence. This story isn't just about saving a program or a successful school play. It's about the often unseen dedication of teachers like Mrs. Langley, who work tirelessly behind the scenes. These are the educators who stay late, come early, and go beyond their job descriptions to ensure that every child can experience success and joy in learning. As the school year draws to a close and we celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week, let's remember and celebrate the Mrs. Langleys in schools across the country. It's their unwavering commitment, often unnoticed until the curtain falls, that truly shapes the future of our children. This week, let's give them the standing ovation they deserve, not just now but every day, for their relentless dedication and impact goes far beyond the fleeting moments of applause. #TeacherAppreciationWeek #EverydayHeroes #EducationImpact #BeyondTheClassroom

Let me share a bit of my path to STEM: Growing up, while money was tight, I was grateful that my family had enough to always meet my needs. That being said, I never got to attend the premium summer camps my peers in richer areas got to. My mom was a stay-at-home mom and did her best. She prioritized my STEM education, but no matter her goals, she could never afford to send me to those premium camps. I was lucky enough to attend two summers of robotics camp for free through gracious donors, which I attribute to my current interest in robotics and AI, but those opportunities required rigorous applications and were highly selective. Access to STEM Education at a young age should not be selective - it should be universal. Right now there is a premium on quality STEM education - I aim to end that. This leads me to Camp STEMPowered LLC. My goal is twofold: 1. Offer low-cost camps to EVERYONE with no income checks. 2. Offer free camps to low-income students attending school districts with historically low STEM resources (this is where I lean on the generosity of donors). I plan to focus on summer camps, but will also incorporate virtual webinar learning sessions, and hackathons to instill confidence in each kid that a career in STEM is achievable regardless of where they come from. That being said, I can't do it alone. There are a few ways I could use help: 1. If this message resonates with you and you have the time, consider applying for a position on the board. 2. While I am still in the process of applying for nonprofit status, if you have any connections with experience in grant writing or corporate giving please send them my way! 3. Repost this to gain visibility. Just as generosity has been shown to me, I plan to continue the cycle and help the next generation. Together we can show ALL people have a place in the wonderful field of STEM!
And just like that Camp STEMPowered LLC is official! Camp STEMPowered aims to bring accessible STEM education to children nationwide starting with Columbus, OH through summer camps, webinars, and hackathons. We are currently searching to fill a board. If you or someone you know is interested in serving on the board of a nonprofit and loves sharing STEM with children of diverse backgrounds please apply to join the board here: https://lnkd.in/eSN94VaF. Applications are due September 20th, 2024. Please share to all interested! Shout out to the current board members: Executive Director - Ava Wandersleben Director of Research and Development - Annarose Hilhorst

Back to School is here! 🎒 Education is an essential part of seeing dreams become a reality. And while it may seem simple, for many of the children we care for, having school supplies is a major stepping stone along the way. In fact, in many areas - school supplies are actually required for students to even be allowed to attend school. That’s why this Back to School project is so important ...and it’s one of the first practical steps in helping kids dream big and have all that they need to see those dreams come to life. Through our Back to School project, we’ll be able to provide every child in the communities we serve with the school supplies they need to learn and dream big. When you give $25, your gift will provide one child with a backpack filled with new school supplies, Bible Scriptures, and a message of hope. Ready to inspire dreams and build up the next generation of world changers?
