This month, Aker BioMarine proudly handed over control of the supply vessel Antarctic Provider to scientists from the Institute of Marine Research (IMR), Norway for 12 days of critical work on krill biomass and ecosystem monitoring in Antarctica 🌊🦐 Since 2011, the Institute of Marine Research (IMR), Norway has conducted annual surveys to study Antarctic krill biomass and ecosystem components in the Southern Ocean. In 2023, they published a milestone study showing that krill catches remain below precautionary levels. The surveys also collect data on whales, penguins, and seals to inform sustainable harvesting. 🐧🐳🦭 Innovative methods like photo-drones and satellite tagging provide valuable insights into the behavior of these species.
