I'm excited to announce that the first publication from my PhD research is here! Our paper, titled "Evidence-Based Practice Competencies among Nutrition Professionals and Students: A Systematic Review," has been published in the Journal of Nutrition. It evaluates the evidence-based practice competencies among nutrition professionals and students that are reported in the literature. We found that none of the included studies assessed two of the six key evidence-based practice competencies: a) determining the ‘effect size/magnitude of effect’ of treatment or exposure, and b) determining the ‘certainty of evidence’ for treatment or exposure. These findings are impactful enough to have warranted an accompanying editorial! Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gC3d5tsv Check out the editorial here: https://lnkd.in/gTjAzfqd Thank you for your interest and support! #PhD #Nutrition #EvidenceBasedPractice #SystematicReview

More robust evidence for #personalizednutrition and #foodasmedicine A recent study, "Effects of a personalized nutrition program on cardiometabolic health: a randomized controlled trial" https://lnkd.in/gSJjvVzB, represents a significant step toward establishing an evidence base for #personalized #nutrition. This 18-week trial compared a personalized dietary program — incorporating #blood #glucose, #triglycerides, #gutmicrobiome, and health history with general dietary advice — to USDA guidelines. The personalized program led to greater improvements in diet quality, #weight, waist circumference, and #glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), and favorably altered #gut #microbiome composition and improved feelings of hunger, energy, and mood. This shows that personalized #dietary advice offers advantages over standard guidelines for healthy individuals. The study's strength lies in its execution among a broadly representative, healthy, middle-aged, and older US adult cohort. An individual's #genetic makeup and environmental exposures can significantly influence their #omics profile, affecting responses to food and #nutritional needs. These factors may change over time and impact early development, with lifelong and transgenerational health consequences. Future research should focus on #precision-based #nutrition tailored to individual needs, from early development to adulthood. For instance, #genetic predispositions in #pregnantwomen might require personalized nutrition for both mother and fetus. Environmental factors, like antibiotics or steroids during antenatal and postnatal periods, could alter maternal and neonatal microbiomes, leading to epigenetic changes affecting the child’s life and future generations. #epigenetic changes could be modifiable through targeted #nutritional strategies. #Artificialintelligence techniques, including #machinelearning, #neuralnetworks, and #multiomics data integration, will be crucial in advancing future studies. #AI will enable #predictive analytics, enhance understanding of #nutritional strategies, and aid in developing #biomarkers to guide #nutrition from early life. Despite significant scientific challenges, personalized nutrition holds great promise for healthier outcomes. NNI WORKSHOP 101 on “Nutrition, microbiome and health, latest findings & future research" Nestlé Nutrition Institute (NNI) and the Wyeth Nutrition Science Center (WNSC) are proud to be an unparalleled partner in continuous nutrition science medical education and global knowledge dissemination. 🌍 In our recent 101 workshop, we delved into the fascinating world of the human microbiome - those trillions of microbial companions that reside within us, influencing our functions and behaviors. From our eating habits to our cognitive processes and even our susceptibility to diseases, the microbiome has a profound impact on human physiology. Our journey began with an exploration of early life gut microbiome ecological patterns, shedding light on the role of parental microbiome programming. We then examined the trajectory of microbiome maturation, identifying nutritional modulators and their links to health outcomes. Highlighting the major positive role that breastmilk plays. Stay connected with us for more groundbreaking insights and updates! Follow Nestlé Nutrition Institute on LinkedIn for the latest in nutrition science. Together, let's shape a healthier future! 💪 #NestleNutritionInstitute #NNIW101 #WNSC

Please take some time to watch this video on Clincal Nutrition by the incredibly inspiring Dr. Paul Wischmeyer. Dr. W discusses the compelling science (numerous trials and tens of thousands of patients) and why Mend stands in a class of its own. If you have not adopted clinical-perioperative nutrition in your practice, it’s safe to say you are doing your patient a disservice. #mend #clinicalnutrition
