Our HouseCalls program has been historically misrepresented and misunderstood. We’re on a mission to not only reshape the way people receive care but also reshape the way people think about early detection and disease prevention. This begins with value-based care programs like HouseCalls, which provide in-home clinical assessments at no cost to millions of seniors each year. Our HouseCalls clinicians are responsible for identifying conditions and connecting patients to necessary specialists and high-quality medical care. These visits are a critical touchpoint in the care continuum, supplementing annual physician visits—not replacing them—and ensuring people have access to needed services, including housing, food and social support. Rather than relying on treating a constant influx of sick patients, we see a different way forward—one that cares for patients before they are too sick for viable treatment and provides higher-quality outcomes at a lower cost. February 2024: A Month That Shook My World In February 2024, I faced one of the most terrifying and traumatic experiences of my life. My 18-month-old daughter was diagnosed with Sepsis after countless visits to doctors and hospitals in Ireland. By the time we reached a diagnosis, her CRP levels had skyrocketed to 490. My world shattered as I realized that this critical condition could have been diagnosed much earlier, potentially avoiding the nightmare we endured. Tomorrow, as we celebrate her 2nd birthday, I will be celebrating twice. Once on September 4th, the day she was born, and again on February 29th, the day she was reborn. This experience has opened my eyes to the profound impact healthcare professionals have on our lives. It’s crucial that they go beyond the textbooks and outdated protocols to provide the care our loved ones deserve. Medical negligence is something that should be eradicated. As we approached September, I strongly believe this month should be declared as Sepsis Awareness Month. Awareness and education can prevent situations like ours from repeating, saving lives and families from the heartache that comes with delayed diagnosis. Let’s strive for a healthcare system that prioritizes patient safety and continuous learning, ensuring no one has to experience what we did. #SepsisAwareness #PatientSafety #Healthcare #SepsisAwarenessMonth #MedicalNegligence
