It’s (Trade) Show Time..! One of the things I love about the #beauty industry are all the new #innovations and concepts that emerge each year. As a beauty and wellness journalist and trend forecaster who has been in the business for 15 years, I still get super excited (and my eyes literally light up) when I see a new product launch or #packaging concept with a brilliant innovation. #Tradeshows are one of the best places to spot new innovations. In fact, our founder and CEO Eva Lagarde was at #MakeUpinNewYork this week. Some of the #sustainable beauty innovations and trends that caught our eyes at the show included Faber-Castell Cosmetics’ Refillable Mechanical Cosmetic Pencil, a easy to refill eye pencil; MS BEAUTiLAB’s Roll and Remove Beauty Spheres, a tiny ball-shaped makeup remover that transforms into a soft, fluid oil; and ACT BEAUTY ’s Blender Bio-Based sponge, which claims to be 93% degradable, in 105 days, when placed in a domestic compost. Sustainable beauty innovations have come a long way in the last few years with more sophisticated green packaging solutions and environmentally responsible formulations coming to the fore. As the sustainable beauty movement gathers pace, new brands are emerging almost on a daily basis. Many of these brands have been inspired by the pioneering actions of French brands such as Florame and COLLINES DE PROVENCE. In today’s article, I look at this incredible family run business, frontrunners of natural beauty with a vision to change the perception and efficacy of organic products. I had the pleasure of speaking with Roman Ruth, the current owner of Florame and Collines de Provence and I was inspired with his creative spirit and feel very honored to have him in my network.   During the interview he explains that his mission is to create a link with nature that you can feel, offering something different and more experiential to their customers. A year ago, we featured Italian supermarket Italmark's new home fragrance: a reed diffuser with the scent of alpine flowers at risk of going extinct, created to highlight biodiversity loss in northern Italy. Now, Brazilian beauty behemoth O Boticário has launched a similar concept: a perfume called Extinto. As the brand points out, when a natural environment suffers degradation, its specific fragrance is one of the first things to disappear. The inaugural scent in O Boticário's Extinto line aims to replicate what Brazil's iconic Guanabara Bay smelled like before it was covered in trash and its waters grew murky — 18 thousand liters of raw sewage are discharged into the bay every second. O Boticário describes the perfume as expressing "the freshness of the waters and the lush green of the forests, with a dewy effect." Unlike Italmark's home fragrance, Extinto isn't available for purchase, although customers can experience the scent at select O Boticário stores. Following Guanabara Bay, Extinto will capture the pre-pollution fragrance of endangered natural areas on other continents: Madagascar, Calabria, New Delhi and Arnhem Land.
