The HPCMP CREATE team recently shared its work on hover prediction at the ICCFD: International Conference on Computational Fluid Dynamics in Kobe, Japan. Hovering is a quintessential function for helicopters and similar vehicles. However, the vortex created by hovering can have substantial influence on aircraft performance. Precise numerical predictions of these effects are both computationally intensive and essential for optimal aircraft design. A critical part of the solution is Helios, HPCMP CREATE’s world-class high-fidelity software tool for rotorcraft aeromechanics. Helios supports Army, Navy, and Air Force acquisition programs by enabling physics-based virtual prototyping and testing analysis and helps the Department of Defense meet the challenge of reducing acquisition time, risk, and cost. The presentation highlighted the Hover Prediction Workshops, an effort of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics in which CREATE has a substantial role. The collaboration connects government, industry and academic collaborators as they develop computational methods to predict all aspects of hovering flight efficiently, practically, and accurately.

Excited to share that our latest paper, "A vertical take off and landing (VTOL) unmanned aircraft vehicle trajectory control model with air-launched missiles", has been published in the Aircraft Engineering and Aerospace Technology. The impact of releasing air-launched missiles, considered as the useful payload carried during the flight of the aircraft, has been taken into account in this modeling.
