Instead of “removing the stigma surrounding memory care,” what if we stopped calling it “memory care” altogether? I saw a statistic this week that estimates 50% of older adults over 85 are living with dementia. If the need for memory care is forecasted to be so dire, let’s just start calling it “care” and agree that everyone is entitled really good care. Memory care focuses on safety and physical well-being. Important yes, but let’s stop looking at memory care like it’s the last stop along the way. Let’s start considering the entirety of the human-being, the life they’ve lived, their spirit, and their journey.
