HOD Singapore Cancer Society | Psychosocial Services | NCSS 40-under-40 | Certified CTRT Practitioner
Staff Abuse: When One's Anger is Disproportionate to the Issue at Hand Beyond the theoretical aspects of community work, reality occasionally brings us face-to-face with the challenges of working on the ground. If one works in the field long enough, encountering individuals with extraordinary anger management issues becomes inevitable, providing a live masterclass in disproportion. I am not referring to the reasonable range of behaviors stemming from dissatisfaction or unmet expectations. Rather, I speak of a level of disproportion that transgresses into personal attacks and unnecessary provocation, characterized by aggressive behaviors intended to inflict maximum psychological damage on others. In psychosocial services, we will meet all kinds of people. Literally. Many who find employment in roles like those on my team often possess gentle personalities, are conflict-avoidant, and value harmony. Consequently, such uncalled-for aggression is especially traumatic for them. For healthcare workers, they are protected by legislation. “Under Section 6 of the Protection from Harassment Act (POHA) 2014 A person can be convicted of a fine not exceeding $5000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months or both, for using abusive or insulting language on a *public service worker when carrying out his duty. *healthcare worker is considered a public service worker” I wonder if we should extend this to staff working in nonprofit sector. Nobody deserves to be treated with this level of disrespect.

"As one expert put it, to UHS and its competitors, foster kids are a “gold mine.” Disgusting! This is another example where children are treated as property, objects, or ways to cash in rather than being treated as human beings. And then we wonder why there are such struggles with mental health and maladaptive behaviors. #childrensmentalhealth #mentalhealth https://lnkd.in/e89iGr-k

Senate Bill 24-115 has passed unanimously and is now in effect as a law. What does that mean for social workers and why is this important? 1) The requirement to pass the masters level exam has been removed as a requirement to become a licensed social worker. 2) While such requirements remain for certain sub-specialties, the exam saw large racial disparities in pass rate highlighting flaws within the exam. 3)Colorado isn’t the first! Other states have removed this requirement in an attempt to appropriately address the mental health crisis in the United States. Why this is important: 1) This removes a financial burden for those entering into social work (a historically underpaid profession). 2)More social workers helps everyone! More qualified applicants means more jobs filled and easier access to services specifically in marginalized communities. Read the details of the bill here:

🌟 Psychosocial Needs of the Elderly and How Assisted Living Facilities Help 🌟 As individuals age, their emotional, mental, and social well-being become increasingly important. Assisted living facilities play a crucial role in meeting these needs and providing support to the elderly. 👥 Social Interaction: Assisted living facilities offer a community setting where seniors can engage in social activities, interact with peers, and build new friendships. This combats loneliness and promotes a sense of belonging. 💙 Emotional Support: Aging can bring emotional challenges. Assisted living facilities provide emotional support through counseling, therapy sessions, and a listening ear, helping seniors cope with their emotions. 🎉 Recreational Activities: Assisted living facilities organize a variety of activities tailored to the interests of the elderly. This promotes mental stimulation, enhances mood, and provides a sense of purpose. 🏥 Health Monitoring: Assisted living facilities have trained staff members who monitor the physical health of the residents, ensuring they receive the necessary care and intervention. 🌸 Supportive Environment: Assisted living facilities offer a safe and supportive environment, providing security and peace of mind for residents and their families. By addressing the psychosocial needs of the elderly, assisted living facilities enhance their quality of life, promote well-being, and foster a sense of community and belonging. #ElderlyCare #AssistedLiving #PsychosocialNeeds #QualityOfLife #Community #mdseniorplacementsolutions #elderly #Alzheimer
