This year we will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Declaration, a milestone celebration called Human Rights 75 (#HR75). Despite the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, many people face challenges across the world in ensuring all are treated equally and many groups are subjected to discrimination regularly. On this Giving Tuesday, let's shift our focus to local charities in Calgary that are making a significant impact. And we know that there are so many great organizations that deserve our support and recognition! 🤝 How do we choose? At Precipice, our focus has been shaped by the current political climate and the issues directly affecting our 2SLGBTQAI+ community. As humans, the need for belonging is essential to our sense of self and our place in the world. 🌍 🌈 Skipping Stone Foundation understands this need for belonging among the trans and gender diverse community. Their inclusive environment fosters community and understanding, providing a safe haven where individuals can express their true selves without fear of judgment. 💜 🙌 Let's support organizations that champion inclusivity and celebrate diversity, because everyone deserves to feel like they belong. Together, we can make a difference! https://lnkd.in/gV39vfUE #GivingTuesday #CommunitySupport #InclusionMatters #Belonging

In the quest to engage donors from diverse backgrounds, one of the foundational challenges faced by nonprofits is the lack of comprehensive data on their donor base. This gap in information regarding donors’ racial and ethnic identities makes it difficult for organizations to accurately assess participation rates and tailor engagement strategies effectively. Initiating the process to collect this vital data is crucial, yet many organizations find themselves uncertain about where to begin. As we navigate this complex terrain, it’s imperative to discuss and share insights on best practices for data collection that respects privacy and promotes inclusivity. How is your organization approaching this challenge? Are there specific methodologies or tools you’ve found effective in gathering and analyzing donor information to enhance diversity? Join the conversation and let's collaboratively explore strategies that can drive our efforts towards a more inclusive and engaged donor community. #FundraisingInsights #DonorRelations #NonprofitFundraising #Philanthropy

One of my best friends has had to speak out against micro aggressions (invading space, blocking exit) and more recently light and then increasingly inappropriate touching. Violence against women takes many forms and when left unchallenged has the potential to escalate. When we see it happening to others we must act. Doing nothing implies acceptance and we will never change behaviour without educating people about what is acceptable what isn’t. White ribbon is a visible organisational commitment to doing all we can to prevent violence against women. And it puts Men at the front and centre of change. If you can, sign the promise. And encourage your organisation to sign up to White Ribbon accreditation. Make things better for the women in your lives.
White Ribbon Day is on Saturday, 25 November. This awareness day is followed by ‘16 days of activism’ leading up to World Human Rights Day on Sunday, 10 December. We have recently become a White Ribbon accredited organisation, aligning with White Ribbon UK, the leading charity engaging men and boys to end violence against women. The core aim is to prevent violence against women and girls by addressing its root causes. We joins a community of hundreds of organisations across England and Wales who are committed to working towards ending violence against women and girls. We are using this campaign period to engage with staff, our partners and local community and invite others to make the White Ribbon promise. Find out more on the White Ribbon website, as well as how to make the promise: https://lnkd.in/eFmtipqb #WhiteRibbonDay

Pride Month is right around the corner, and straight-led organizations flock to the closest queer person or nonprofit to put on an event to attract LGBTQIA+ people to their cause. 🙋♀️ While the intentions are good, most of these organizations don’t even have queer people on their board, or collect LGBTQIA+ data, or even know where to find them…. And that’s ok! It’s a lot to learn and we appreciate your efforts. 🫶 But it’s time to do more and do better. You can start your journey here! 🤩 ✍️My article “Get Q’d In: Advance Your Mission By Engaging LGBTQIA+ Donors” is now available online via Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP Global)’s Advancing Philanthropy! 🤓 💡The article is your guide on quick tips for long-term engagement from one of the most sought-after communities. 👀 🏳️🌈Take your feel-good one-off Pride events and turn your efforts into a sustainable constituency of the most loyal people you’ll ever engage. 🔄 💬After you read it, sound off in the comments — what more do you want to know? We’re just getting started.👇 https://lnkd.in/g43WVpmG

Get involved in the fight against GBV. You can do this in different ways like empowering women and girls through education, donating to organizations that fight for women’s rights, offering your professional expertise, employers putting in place and ensuring implementation of relevant policies at the workplace, or even simply using your voice to create awareness. #noexcuses #endgbv #16daysofactivism

HSJ Award winning Coordinator & Producer with expertise in Cultural Production and Community Development
Working as a freelance community producer, there are questions I ask charities, arts and third sector organizations. . As an organisation: How do you develop trust and build relationships with community groups? Do you have a real understanding of community groups' challenges and fears? Do you change your previous mindsets and behaviour's before consulting with community groups? Also, as an organisation: Why do you want to engage with community groups, and how will you achieve this with equity and equality? #communityengagement #communitydevelopment #equity #equality #deemcreatives
