Out of the Archives: 100 years ago today! Catskill water was nearly on its way into Brooklyn's Park Slope via this new conduit down 8th Avenue, one of several built in the 1920s to branch off from City Water Tunnel No. 1 and deliver water to Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island. June 6, 1924. For more NYCDEP History, Click http://bit.ly/2tKkvDE. #NYCWater #tbt #Brooklyn #WaterTunnel #Construction #Engineering #TodayInDEPHistory
I would say this is a 60" pipe, no? I have seen some pipes from that era and they are usually tar lined and coated for corrosion protection. If the project team could let us know in an updated post what diameter, pressure and depth this was installed and if any condition assessment has been performed recently, it would be very beneficial to all. Thanks for sharing......
Millions of gallons travelling beneath our feet without anyone giving it much thought, thanks to efforts of many who have now passed on, and today's ongoing efforts of dedicated NYCDEP staff.
Few assets last 100+ years; that these have testifies to well-thought out plans and careful implementation.
The street, buildings, look almost the same now
Looking closely you can see the revit connections …. For the pipe connections…
Unbelievable picture. The industry has sure come a long way!!
Love this!
