How could we integrate new hires into our teams? Our success depends on training new joinees to make them accountable for their work. Here are some of the ways it has worked for us at GrayCyan. 👥We encourage job shadowing. This way new joinees learn on the job practical stuff. 🥅We encourage new hires to ask questions not only to those who they report to but also to members of the other teams irrespective of hierarchies. 💥We understand mistakes are a part of learning process. We welcome taking initiatives and unintentional mistakes as a result. These are learning opportunities and build confidence. What are some of the things you’ve implemented in your teams? Please share your ideas 💡. GrayCyan is a technical solutions agency providing IT developers and AI engineers for hire. DM for credit. #graycyan #devsforhire #aideveloper

We’ve set out some common career transitions and look at the relevance of skills, values and motivations, mentors and career planning. It’s easy to be too busy on the day job to spend time thinking about our career. But not thinking ahead can mean that we are not prepared for future opportunities when they arise. During an in-house legal career, there are typically a number of key transitions that could affect and influence the direction our career takes. https://buff.ly/3xw7sfY #legalleadership #inhouselaw #careerdevelopment

There's commencement season and there's starting-a-career season; both prompt us to consider our own journeys, what we've learned, and what we believe is worth sharing. Many of my colleagues are meeting new colleagues right now and taking the opportunity to share informally or perhaps to mentor. My advice to new and established team members is to remember that our success is a group effort and to listen to one another; listening is a crucial way to continue learning across your career. Welcome to all our newest team members! What’s the best advice you received when starting your career?

Happy Friday, Y'all! I know that I've been a little quiet on the recruiting front on here. That's because I was going like a madwoman the last few weeks before the holidays 🎄- getting a record number of offers out, so we could lock in 🔐the best talent for the new year (and also give those awesome folks an extra something special to celebrate!) Now that I have a moment to reflect, here is what I'd like to share as we enter the New Year 🥂: - I appreciate the seasonal rhythms that recruiting (particularly university recruiting) offers. - I so love the excitement of onboarding new employees (particularly those in their early careers). - Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) has been a hot topic lately. It is not about favoring certain demographics but offering up an even playing field where all candidates are considered equally. From that even playing field, the most qualified will be recruited. In order to properly do this, we need to seek out those space where folks who are less represented hang out. It's not about leaving anyone out. It's about inviting people in. It's being inclusive. And it's the only way to acquire the best talent. ❤️ - I've come back to recruiting from a long stint in career development and higher education facilitation. I have realized that at heart I will always be a career development person (and teacher). This only makes me a stronger recruiter because I always have the best interest of the candidate at the forefront and coaching them to be the best they can be. Blending skills from various professions is where the magic lies. I am grateful to be a in position where I get to do all of these things. I hope you get to do the same. On that note, are you looking to work for a well-run machine, that has won several awards for "best place to work", including for women, people of color, and those in the LGBTQ community? Let's talk! It's application time. As a young lawyer, I didn't have many choices back then. And for me the choice was plain - join a big 4 Law Firm, work with the best and brightest, slog it out and gain the prestige of being on one of the smartest teams at one of the swankiest firms around. Long story short - I didn't become a good lawyer at that firm. Sure, I gained a lot of experience through working with some of the brightest minds, but I rarely got the opportunity to address the court, or run an entire file on my own. If I had known then what I know now, my choice of pupillage (what we used to call a training contract) may have been different. So if I may offer some unsolicited advice to young lawyers out there, consider a few things before you apply for a training contract with that firm: 1) What learning opportunities will you be getting, during and after your TC? Working with some of the brightest in the profession does not mean you will be learning. Yes, you will be exposed to many areas of the law that smaller firms may not be able to offer. But exposure does not equal learning. You won't learn much if all you're doing is researching some obscure point. You will learn more by being given the responsibility to handle significant pieces of litigation, like for example, drafting an entire affidavit or even written submissions, and later, arguing hearings. In large law firms you will be lucky if you are given such opportunities 1 or even 2 years down the road. In a smaller sized firm, you may get it on day one. Which brings me to my next point - 2) How much responsibility will you be given? In larger law firms with numerous trainees, you will be lucky to get the opportunity to take on responsibilities like drafting entire affidavits or submissions, or handling clients. In a smaller sized firm, you will get such opportunities far quicker because, frankly, a smaller firm lacks the human capital. A large firm may not want to take on the risk of giving you the work that will enable you to grow. What this means is that in a smaller firm, you will work closely with the lawyer/partner in charge of the file and get to see him/her in action, up close. You will learn by following. Which brings me to my last point - 3) Who's going to be your mentor? Working with the best and the brightest does not at all equate to being mentored by them. What will your interactions really be with the lawyer who is going to sign your training contract forms? Will you actually be following him/her to hearings or trial, or will you be stuck in some back room somewhere working only with their underlings? In biblical times there was an admonishment for disciples to be "covered in the dust of your rabbi" - to sit or walk so closely with him that you are covered in his dust of his feet. Here, you get to choose your rabbi. So, ask yourself before you sign on, will you truly be gaining the experience you want to be a good lawyer, or the experience you need?
“Great things in business are never done by one person; they're done by a team of people.” — Steve Jobs Silvester Legal LLC is hiring trainees, with a view to retention, for 2025 - 2027. Join a team that is striving to do great things.
