Today, we are joining the MN National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and other groups to make a push to call state leaders urging them to fix the upcoming rate cut and provide the much needed funding for mental health providers to do their work. 2 minutes of your time can make a world of difference! Through our public policy priority addressing access to care and services, we focus on workforce expansion, since there’s a critical shortage of behavioral health providers in the U.S. When accounting for the entire country: 🧠 88% of counties are considered a mental health professional shortage area 🧠 0.05% of counties are considered to have no provider shortage county-wide Put another way, over a third of the U.S. population lives in an area with a shortage of behavioral health professionals, and nearly two-thirds of shortage areas are rural. Proposition 1: Newsom’s overhaul of California’s mental health system A “yes” vote on the measure would also approve a $6.4-billion bond to build facilities to provide 10,000 new treatment beds. The bipartisan support at the Capitol speaks to reality that the problem stretches to every corner of California. Opposing side, "several mental health advocacy groups arguing that it’s too costly and will reduce local funding for existing mental health services. The issue at hand - "according to a recent survey by UC San Francisco, about 181,000 people statewide, including 75,000 in Los Angeles County, are homeless, according to 2023 counts. As much as 82% of unhoused individuals have experienced a serious mental health condition, and nearly two-thirds have at some point regularly used illicit drugs" Be informed! DID YOU KNOW💭 According to a study published by Toronto Public Health in the calendar year of 2022, 62% of people who died from accidental opioid toxicity in Toronto resided in a private dwelling at the time of their death compared to 69% in the rest of the province. Twenty-five percent (25%) of individuals who died from accidental opioid toxicity in Toronto were experiencing homelessness in the most recent one-year period, compared to 16% in the rest of Ontario. July is National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month. At Intus Care, we stand in solidarity with racial and ethnic minority communities, acknowledging the unique struggles they face regarding mental health. According to the HHS Office of Minority Health, mental health disparities persist in various minority groups, highlighting the importance of raising awareness and offering support. PACE programs play a crucial role in providing older Americans from diverse backgrounds access to comprehensive care, including mental health services. Additionally, PACE helps their participants age in place, keeping them in their homes and a part of the community. Data from over 45 PACE programs across the nation reveals a 16% lower depression rate among dual eligible beneficiaries compared to the national average. Currently, PACE partners demonstrate an average depression rate of 26%, significantly lower than the 31% average reported by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. The contrast in depression rates between PACE participants and the national average underscores the effectiveness of PACE programs in improving mental health outcomes for dual eligible beneficiaries. 𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴: 𝗦𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗲𝗹𝗳-𝗛𝗮𝗿𝗺 ❝𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩, 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐡𝐨𝐩𝐞❞ - 𝐑𝐢𝐲𝐚𝐧 𝐏𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐞𝐳, 𝐑𝐏𝐦, 𝐑𝐏𝐬𝐲 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐡𝐨𝐩𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 no matter how big or small it is can provide hope for struggling individuals. More so, it serves as a reminder that preventing suicide is a public health priority and that immediate action is needed to reduce fatality rates. The World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) collaborated on establishing World Suicide Prevention Day (WPSD) in 2003. Every year on September 10, organizations, governments, and the general public are encouraged to raise awareness of the issue and focus attention on it with a loud declaration that self-harming can possibly prevented.
