Today is the first day of Minority Mental Health Month. It's a time to recognize the unique mental health challenges minority communities face. Anyone can experience mental illness. And, when it comes to finding care, it can be even more difficult for many minority community members. Some struggle because of cultural stigma, language barriers, or health insurance coverage. Others have a hard time finding a provider who can identify with their lived experience. This month, let's continue working to make getting care easy - for everyone. ❤️

Many people from racial and ethnic minority groups have difficulty getting mental health care. This can be due to many different reasons, such as cost or not having adequate health insurance coverage or even concerns that getting help may be perceived as being weak. It may also be challenging to find providers from one’s racial or ethnic group. Stigma or negative ideas about mental health care may also prevent people from seeking services. Other things in our environment can impact mental health and emotional well-being. At VJLAP, we understand the barriers to treatment and strive to be a resource for those in need. Let’s work together to break down stigmas, raise awareness, and support mental wellness for everyone. 💙 #MinorityMentalHealthMonth

Approximately half of all self-employed people have experienced poor mental health within the past 12 months - 22% worse than the national average.* Simply Business, one of the UK's largest insurance providers for small businesses, has partnered with Mental Health at Work, a programme curated by leading mental health charity Mind, to conduct the research for the second year running. Results from the survey of 519 micro-business owners (1-9 employees) and self-employed people showed marginal improvement in areas, including reduced stigma around mental health issues and increased understanding of resources, but paints an overall concerning picture. https://buff.ly/4bPwGES

If you prefer to 𝐣𝐨𝐢𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐧𝐲𝐦𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐥𝐲, without sharing your real name and without turning on your camera or microphone, that's absolutely okay! We are aware that mental health can still be a very stigmatized and taboo topic, especially in professional/career spaces.
