Last Friday we released the New Zealand Wine Roadmap to Net Zero 2050. We put a huge amount of effort in to building something that is both ambitious and feasible, celebrates small wins but challenges our vineyards and wineries to be the movers and shakers of this industry. You can find the roadmap here: https://lnkd.in/e5AAfAFA What did we explore? ⚡ Energy efficiency (and how this must offset business growth) 🍇 Divesting from fossil fuels (including electrification and hydrogen) ☀ Decarbonising electricity 🍾 Innovating the value chain (options for packaging and transport) 🌳 Carbon removals Decarbonising the value chain (packaging, transport etc.) in particular remains a huge challenge to be solved, but what we did find is a huge range of options out there to be adopted. The trick is just to start and learn while you're on the road! Big thanks to all involved for a fun and challenging project, and for a very rewarding outcome.

In honor of #EarthDay this Monday, April 22nd, you're invited to download a complimentary copy of BIER's 2023 Water, Energy, and Emissions Efficiency Benchmarking Study. In its 12 benchmarking studies, BIER has evaluated 18 years of industry performance for nearly 2,000 facilities worldwide. The final results represent a comprehensive set of production, water, energy, and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions metrics which are normalized, categorized, and analyzed by facility and beverage type. The 2023 benchmarking study includes facility-level data for 2017, 2020, and 2022 from 14 BIER members and two partner contributors. The study shows improvements in water, energy, and emissions intensity ratios by 8%, 11%, and 22% respectively. Continued progress is represented through a variety of facility categories, production volumes, and geographic locations – showcasing that the beverage industry continues to improve business performance while proactively reducing environmental impacts worldwide. Last week, AAK Denmark had the honor of hosting European Parliament Member Niels Fuglsang and Minister of Taxation Jeppe Bruus. Their visit highlighted the importance of our green transition efforts and sustainability initiatives. 🌍 We're excited to share that our new bio-boilers are almost ready to run at full capacity, cutting over 90% of our CO2 emissions at our Aarhus site. 🍃 These innovative boilers utilize shea meal, a residual product from our oil extraction process, reducing emissions by nearly 50,000 tons of CO2. This significant step will also move AAK Denmark out of the top 100 list of Denmark's largest CO2 emitters. 🌿Together, we can work towards a more sustainable future. 🌿 #Sustainability #GreenTransition #Innovation #ClimateAction #AAK
