Research by the Building Engineering Services Association (BESA) reveals a "total lack of engagement" from construction clients with the new Building Safety Act, which has been in effect since 2022. Based on six months of regional meetings, BESA members reported that no clients have discussed compliance, with clients instead prioritising faster and cheaper project delivery. #Costain has confirmed the award of a new contract by #HS2 to deliver tunnel and lineside mechanical and electrical systems under a deal worth a minimum of £400m. Work will start in the first quarter of 2025 for a seven-year period, with the option for additional contract extensions. The Enquirer exclusively revealed the win last week after £3bn of track contracts were also awarded by HS2. The contract will see Costain deliver the design, supply, manufacture, installation, testing and commissioning of HS2’s Tunnel and #Lineside M&E systems during construction. Alex Vaughan, CEO of Costain, said: “Costain has a long-standing involvement with the UK’s largest strategic infrastructure programme and this new contract is a testament to the strength of our collaborative and successful relationship with HS2. “Our teams will draw on their experience and expertise to deliver world-class systems, using the latest technology to drive efficiency.”

A New South Wales civil infrastructure and utilities constructer has implemented close to $140,000 worth of safety initiatives via an Enforceable Undertaking (EU) in a strong example of the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator’s (NHVR) commitment to improving safety across the industry. The initiatives included ensuring subcontracts contain compliance assuring conditions and other Chain of Responsibility (CoR) performance-management provisions Enforceable Undertakings allow the NHVR to further enhance, encourage and monitor safer behaviours, which in turn improves safety for everyone on the road. Rather than companies paying fines for breach incidents, EUs are designed so the money is instead invested internally on measures which directly lead to safer outcomes. This case is a strong example of how the NHVR’s commitment to improving the transport community’s safety measures delivers an improved outcome for not only the business and its associated workforce, but the wider public https://lnkd.in/g3krBeg8
