Children raised in poverty are more likely to experience toxic stress from hardships such as housing instability, hunger and violence. Children in families that lack resources can be buffered by strong parental support. Without that support, they are at greater risk for delayed communication, language, and emotional development. Financial security matters in the early years. We need to support families when it counts. Follow this link to learn more. https://lnkd.in/gisEAZ7i

At Barnardos Aotearoa, we are deeply concerned about the recent cuts to intervention services following Oranga Tamariki’s funding decisions. These vital services prevent crises, strengthen families, and help tamariki thrive. Our 0800 What’s Up helpline for children and young people is at risk of closing due to Government funding cuts. Without services like this, lives are at risk and children and whānau will face even greater challenges without the support they need. #BarnardosAotearoa #EarlyIntervention https://lnkd.in/gDyqGDem

When you fail to pay child support, you fail your child. Non-payment of child support is economic abuse. Economic abuse is family domestic violence. Today is Economic Abuse Awareness Day and the Non-Payment of Child Support as a Form of Economic Abuse Working Group is a national alliance of women’s legal, financial counselling and economic rights organisations calling for urgent reforms to stop ongoing systemic violence and economic abuse against Australian women. Single mothers are the hardest hit by financial hardship in Western Australia. The proof is in our data: https://lnkd.in/gzfMMANd And for so many of our single mother clients, whose income opportunities are inhibited by child minding responsibilities, they are owed significant amounts of child support - often tens of thousands of dollars. Raising children in today's cost of living is challenging enough, but when child support is withheld - it creates poverty and hardship for children. #nonpaymentofchildsupportiseconomicabuse #IEAAD24 #EndEconomicAbuse #NoExcuse #NoExcuseforEconomicAbuse #16DaysinWA #PlayYourPart

As our new government prepares for their first 100 days in office, our children's mental health programme is calling for a long-awaited strategy to tackle child poverty once and for all. 👉 Read more about our asks, and the incredible partners we work with: https://lnkd.in/epwsAP9e 👨👦👦 Supporting interventions and policy changes that loosen poverty’s grip on children and families right now – like abolishing the 2-child cap – is an impactful place to start. But without addressing the many other factors that can affect a family’s ability to pay the bills, from low-paid unstable work to unaffordable rent, these changes are sticking plasters. 💷 We need a long-term strategy to sustainably reduce the high levels of child poverty in the UK, considering a range of factors that affect children and families; this includes housing, employment, education, and childcare costs. 💬 Furthermore, any strategy produced by government should have the voice of children, young people and parents at the heart of it – listening to their experience in order to fully understand the impact of broader policy change.

In England, around 17.3% of children are recognised as having special educational needs & disabilities (SEND). Many families already save for their children’s future through products such as Child Trust Funds or Junior ISAs. However, a significant challenge arises if, at 18, these children lack the mental capacity to manage the funds themselves, leaving them inaccessible. A Disabled Persons Trust solves this problem, as it is the Trustees rather than the beneficiaries who have control. Read more about specialised financial planning that can make all the difference to the families of SEND children: https://lnkd.in/ey8AsnTZ #send #trust #specialised #financialplanning #family #SENDchild

Do you know that children go through so much and say so little? Do you know that an average African child is in an abusive relationship with his/her parents and relatives? Do you know the enormity of pressure we place on children for having unique growth/developmental traits? It is no longer sufficient to just celebrate children's day with a march past, but to talk about issues confronting African and Nigerian children. Girls get raped under our roof while parents are busy with business and chasing career. Male children are abused for being hyperactive and for not being as intelligent as the child next door. Can we take a moment and stop imposing so much on these fragile souls? Can we stop raising robots and raise humans instead? Can we raise awareness where we notice child slavery, abuse, or rape of a child instead of making it a family/deliverance/internal affair? Can we let these children evolve without applying so much pressure and expectations on them? Let us shower them with empathy, communicate with care, and listen without imposing ourselves on them. Make investments and savings for these children so that they will grow and find support when they need it. Prioritise the mental health of your children above the religious/social/cultural demand on your children. May our children flourish in health, sound mind, and loads of love and happiness.
