Diamond Baseball Holdings, backed by Silver Lake, has made a $2 billion overall investment in minor league baseball, with an eye on streamlining business operations for its 41 teams, mixed-use real estate development, offseason activations at its ballparks, and more. Sports Business Journal

When Major League Baseball instituted its PDL facility standards in early 2021, it set off shockwaves (and some panic) through the Minor League Baseball ecosystem. It also sparked a flood of needed investment into the 120 stadiums whose teams survived MLB's cull of the farm system; for 2 decades, MiLB owners were naturally incentivized to invest in fan-facing aspects of their ballparks and much less so, until the PDL standards, in player development facilities. Since the PDL standards were initiated, Sports Business Journal research shows at least $2.3 billion has been invested (or committed to) stadium renovations and new builds. “Never in the history of Minor League Baseball has this kind of support or dollars gone into the system," said Diamond Baseball Holdings CEO Peter B. The Atlanta Braves and Gray Media have agreed on a multi-year partnership starting in 2025 for Gray to simulcast 15 regular season games alongside FanDuel Sports Network, the Braves’ rightsholder partner. Gray will carry the Braves in 24 markets (pictured below) across six states of the Braves’ home television territory – one of the largest in professional sports – reaching more than 15 million households. The 15 regular season games will be spread across the season, and selected games will be announced at a later date. Gray will also exclusively produce and air 10 spring training games. “Gray Media is thrilled to partner with the Atlanta Braves to bring baseball back to local broadcast television across the Southeast,” Gray Chairman and CEO Hilton Howell said. “We are proud to give Braves fans a new way to watch their favorite players and one of the best franchises in baseball history.”
