🚗 💡 To support law enforcement efforts to reduce criminal activity, particularly downtown, our agency has published guidance for lighting requirements at licensed public parking lots because improved lighting can lead to a reduction in crime. Through Oct. 1 of this year, there were 744 instances of theft at parking lots or garages in downtown Denver. That includes vehicle theft, as well as auto parts and items taken from vehicles stolen. We anticipate it could take up to one year for all necessary lighting upgrades to be completed across Denver. After extensive city education and outreach efforts, parking operators not in compliance will be subject to fines up to $999 and license suspension or revocation. As police leaders, we’ve all seen the evolving challenges facing our communities, but the surge in car thefts—fueled by national trends and social media challenges—has brought us to a breaking point here in the Quad Cities area. Since 2020, we’ve endured over 2,600 stolen vehicles, and the trend shows no signs of slowing. We are not immune to the national KiaBoyz phenomenon, and its impact is tearing at the fabric of our community. Last week, a car stolen in a neighboring city carried an unimaginable twist: a 4-year-old child was inside. Days later, a pursuit involving two stolen vehicles and a shooting led to the shocking discovery that the occupants were juveniles aged 11-16. This is no longer a problem that law enforcement can tackle alone. It’s time for legislators, community leaders, educators, parents, and policymakers to step forward and engage in meaningful action. Chiefs/City Managers ~ Florida just passed and the Governor signed SB 184 which creates a 25' buffer around police officers, firefighters, and emergency personnel when they are working. Bystanders who disregard a verbal warning and approach with the intent to interfere, harass, or threaten could be arrested & charged with a misdemeanor. Sounds like a really good regulation, with good intent. Officer safety is paramount in every decision, but this is not a fast-food decision at the Drive-thru window. Before presenting a similar proposal in your city/county, we suggest you meet with your local community members, city attorneys, and County Attorney. Crime is a topic that is less likely to be chosen by Utah voters when responding to open-ended questions but often ranks a little higher when compared with other priorities. In 2016, crime was among the top 10 for the first time since 2008. In early March 2020, crime ranked 13th; by July 2020, it ranked 11th. In 2024, it has again landed in 13th place. I am pro law enforcement but this is appalling and I don't know what message is being shared from the DAs office George Gascón to the Mayor's office Mayor Karen Bass to Chief (Interim) Dominic H. Choi to LAPD Valley Bureau Deputy Chief Ruby Flores (who is being considered for Chief) to what patrol officers in roll call are being told what to do or not to do, BUT THIS IS AN EMBARRASSMENT. WHO IS IN CHARGE? When you see blue and red lights in the background of the video and the subjects are still in the store, what PR spin are you going to give us? There is zero excuse for not making at least one arrest. Why bother saying "If you see something, say something?" Problem is the final part that is never shared out loud and that is but we won't do anything about what you see and say. If LAPD is not going to be proactive or reactive when a crime is right in front of them, what would the 3rd descriptor of the type of their service be? And shame on the local media for not asking good follow-up questions. This will be my very first post in which I won't be as positive as usual. This video shows exactly why no officer should be on patrol alone. Yet, in this country, officers are even sent on foot patrol alone, even though most are unarmed and don't carry a taser. This is something I find challenging to understand in my transition journey. And I am not alone - when I tell my colleagues in Italy about this, they always struggle to believe it. In Italy, where I served in the Carabinieri police force, all officers were armed, there were no body-worn cameras, and we didn't have an equivalent of the IOPC, nor the same level of scrutiny seen in many common law countries. Nevertheless, our patrols always had a minimum of two officers, sometimes three, which is also the minimum suggested to handle a prisoner safely. In over a decade of service in Italy, I encountered in a period of a month or two the level of violence, disrespect, antagonism, and resistance that I face here in a single set or two. I know I am very new to this reality, and I don't want to criticise a country and my new police family that have given me this opportunity. Eventually, with time, I will understand and see things that I can't see now. I'm always open to changing my mind and broadening my view. However, if there hasn't been evidence-based research on the risks of solo patrols, now is probably the time to undertake it. I believe this culture of solo patrols is a "cultural legacy" that made sense when society was different. However, in recent years, things have changed, and exposing officers to such risks is, in a sense, disconnected from reality. #PoliceSafety #ModernPolicing #OfficerWellbeing #PatrolPolicy #PublicSafety

Dear Memphis, You are out of control. There is no easy fix to the rampant crime. Normal citizens want action, but the activists want police reform, softer, gentler, law enforcement and social initiatives to pacify the criminals, excuse previous criminal behavior, and accept a false narrative that tax payers should be responsible for character building. Soft hands will not STOP the criminal activity. kind hearts will not STOP bullets. Social activism will not STOP the thefts, assaults, and damage tomorrow. Defensive actions will not repel the assault on normal citizens and the citizens should not have to accept this kind of behavior. How many innocent people must be shot, experience theft of property, and the ongoing intimidating behavior from the cities worse before the citizens respond? https://lnkd.in/eRpRpG3P
