The Board of Lucas County Commissioners voted Tuesday to join the Ohio Large Urban Counties Alliance, which will have representatives from Ohio's six biggest counties -- Cuyahoga, Franklin, Hamilton, Lucas, Montgomery, and Summit. Lucas County Commissioner Pete Gerken, who spearheaded the coalition, has been named chairperson of the alliance. This collaborative group will be an avenue for Ohio's largest counties to advocate for collective priorities, share best practices, and elevate Ohio's voice on the regional and national stage on issues such as workforce, housing, education, economic development, public safety, and the environment.

Clarios, leading the way in advanced battery solutions, announced expanding operations in Oconee County. According to the SC Dept. of Commerce, this $16 million investment will create 12 new jobs with the 9,000-square-foot #expansion. The Oconee facility produces component parts for Absorbent Glass Mat #batteries used in new #automotivetechnology - including hybrid and #EV. Yet another example of #manufacturing growth in the south.

And while I know so much about their work, it never fails to expand my grasp of the ways communities are, and should be more supported, as authorities of the conditions in which they live: “For University Park Slow Jams with USC, we made giant band-aids for community members to place on broken sidewalk “ouchies.”” Who gets to define when infrastructure is working or not working? How do formal, technical definitions fail in the face of lived experiences as they so often do? This example makes me wonder why communities don’t get to issue “traffic tickets” to public agencies who fail to maintain equitable access to services and safe outcomes. There’s actually a legal pathway for this. Getting hip to Public Matters approach to #conspiratorialjoy should be pre-work for anyone involved in U.S. Department of Transportation #reconnectingcommunities program!
