In New York State, a significant barrier to expanding broadband access lies in the red tape and bureaucratic hurdles surrounding the permitting process for new projects. Lawmakers must prioritize passing legislation that simplifies these obstacles. We can't bring U.S. states into the next era of digitalization until we do this. #NewYork #BroadbandPolicy #RedTape #DigitalDivide

"Since coming to the Senate in 2015, I have made getting more West Virginians broadband access a top priority, which ultimately led to the launch of my Capito Connect plan. Since then, we have made great strides when it comes to connectivity in our state. Additionally, my Capito Connect plan has created the platform to facilitate conversations with people all across West Virginia about the connectivity issues they face, and the urgent need for reliable broadband access." #edtech #digitalinnovation #broadband

As we enter into the new phase of the historic broadband funding, we at INCOMPAS want to make sure that states, cities, and towns have the resources and strategies in place to effectively deploy their networks. Read more about our Broadband Ready City Checklist in my OpEd below.
With the historic broadband funding finally hitting the states this year, we are at an exciting juncture in the deployment process. As we begin this new phase, it is essential that states, cities, and towns have processes in place to ensure they are ready to hit the ground running when the money arrives in their bank accounts. That is why we put together the “Broadband Ready City” Checklist as a guide for state and local governments to coordinate and effectively implement the $42.5 billion Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment Program. We were excited to see Kansas be one of the first states to lead on adopting specific local ordinances ahead of time and before any BEAD funding is awarded. This is an important first step, and we urge other states to build on this and implement the language of our “Broadband Ready City” Checklist.
