🚨 NEW POD ALERT 🚨 As Men's Health Month (June) comes to a close, Further Together host Michael Holtz sits down with his friend and fellow health advocate Mike Leventhal, executive director of the Tennessee Men's Health Network, for a conversation about men and their health. Men are great about many things, like taking care of their families and their careers, but are not always great about taking care of themselves, which can be detrimental. The discussion includes the importance of seeing a doctor and a dentist for regular checkups, and those all-important screening tests for colorectal and prostate cancers. Mike talks about how the Tennessee chapter of the Men's Health Network got started and some of the initiatives underway to help men better focus on their health. MEN'S HEALTH WEEK 2024 Men's don't talk, we're told. So for Men's Health Week 2024 we're encouraging men to share their stories. We're taking our lead from King Charles who, earlier this year, shared that he had a problem with an enlarged prostate. On the day after his announcement, there were 16,410 visits to the relevant National Health Service website page compared with 1,414 visits the previous day. Prostate Cancer UK saw an almost doubling in the number of users of its online risk checker. This goes to show the difference that honest sharing can make. Most of us won't have same impact as the King - for a while in the UK media, it was difficult to avoid urologists talking about the prostate and the things that can go wrong with it - but if there is a taboo about men's talking, well, the best way to beat a taboo is to ignore it. P For Prostate The Mens Health Forum will be producing a new man manual P For Prostate looking at all aspects of the prostate - from where it is and what it does through to various problems it can cause for men. Share Your Story But it's not just prostates we should be talking about. Whatever's going on with your health, sharing it may well help you and, by putting a difficult topic on the agenda, it will certainly help others. “Among patients with a behavioral condition, 87% also have one or more medical conditions, such as a circulatory condition, a musculoskeletal condition or cancer (neoplasm). When behavioral conditions go untreated, these comorbid medical conditions worsen, and the ability to function in workplaces, families and communities can be hindered. Moreover, costs for patients with a medical condition and behavioral condition are two to three times higher than for patients without a behavioral condition.” https://ow.ly/OQrN50Q4PlV #talktherapy #onlintherapy #readytotalk #readytolisten #che #caringhealth4everyone #chepartnership #partnerships #mentalwellnessmatters #emotionalwellnessmatters #behavioralhealthcare #behaviroalhealthservices
