"The Airborne and Satellite Investigation of Asian Air Quality (ASIA-AQ), a NASA Airborne Science program, is an opportunity for international collaboration that involves working with local partners to apply multi-perspective observations in a consistent strategy across interested Asian countries to improve both specific understanding of local air quality issues and general understanding of common challenges in the interpretation of satellite observations and modeling of air quality." In a meeting with my NASA mentor, Malcolm Glover, PhD, we discussed futures and our research at NASA. I explained some of the theoretical "laws" of futuring and a few tools we employ to uncover preferred futures. A few of these "laws" include: 1. "Any useful idea about the future must at first sight appear ridiculous.” -Dr. Jim Dator (2nd Law of Futures) 2. “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.” -Arthur C. Clarke When asking him if my explanations were clear and concise, he stated the following: "When we think about the future, we discover who we are and who we want to become. The future is shaped by our thoughts and defined by our actions in the present. Through our wisdom, work, wit, and sheer will, we transform our current circumstances and create new beginnings." -Dr. Malcolm Glover, NASA 08/20/2024 11:57 pm CT His articulation of preferred futures was so accurate that I had to post it!

Memorial Day in the United States | International Space Station "All gave some, but some gave all." "On Memorial Day in the United States, we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation." FriendsofNASA.org: Memorial Day (originally known as Decoration Day) is a federal holiday in the United States for honoring and mourning the U.S. military personnel that died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. It is observed on the last Monday of May. Space research is scientific study carried out in outer space, and by studying outer space. From the use of space technology to the observable universe, space research is a wide research field. Earth science, materials science, biology, medicine, and physics all apply to the space research environment. Chinese rockets were used in ceremony and as weaponry since the 13th century, but no rocket would overcome Earth's gravity until the latter half of the 20th century. Space-capable rocketry appeared simultaneously in the work of three scientists, in three separate countries. In Russia, Konstantin Tsiolkovsky, in the United States, Robert H. Goddard, and in Germany, Hermann Oberth. The United States and the Soviet Union created their own missile programs. The space research field evolved as scientific investigation based on advancing rocket technology. #snsinstitutions #snsdesignthinkers #designthinking

In FY 2023 the United States national debt was $33.2 Trillion dollars (https://lnkd.in/gnjZaxRb, Aug 10, 2024). In FY 2024 the interest due on that debt will be $867.7 billion dollars (usaspending.gov) In FY 2024 NASA’s budget is $17.8 billion dollars (usaspending.gov) Does the U.S. Space program stand a chance in the coming recession or will there be cuts? https://lnkd.in/gYqKSKdw

https://lnkd.in/exzarFGn --------This post briefly discussed the history of metric and the imperial units (also known as the U.S. customary system). It confirms my belief that the metric unit is far better than the imperial system. --------According to Amr Elharony, the author of the post, the imperial unit is an old unit system that was invented by Romans, Celtics, and Anglo-Saxons and further developed by the English monarch. On the other hand, the metric units originated from the French Revolution, aiming to provide a more scientific measurement. --------When the U.S. existed as an independent political entity, the founding fathers had a chance to adopt the metric units. Yet, under the influence of the past and the doubt about the metric system, Thomas Jefferson did not accept the metric system. This laid the foundation for engineering errors and the tremendous monetary loss on space projects in the future. One of the most Infamous was the Mars Climate Orbiter initiated by NASA in the 1990s. The administration instructed all the contractors to be in the metric standard. Yet, Lockheed Martin Corporation, one of the major contractors and always in the imperial units because of its aviation business, overlooked the announcement of NASA, causing a catastrophic calculation error when the device was in the orbit of Mars. It eventually burned up in the atmosphere of Mars and resulted in a 125-billion-dollar loss. --------I strongly recommend the college students to read this post. It is brief and taught me more about the history of these unit systems and the negative consequence of welcoming the non-scientific unit standard to the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math. Which country do you think will join us to the Moon!! 🤔👩🏾🚀🚀🌗 I am so honored to serve my country as a member of the National Space Council Users’ Advisory Group (NSpC UAG) alongside Designated Federal Officers (DFO) as a representative of the Maricopa Community Colleges. The function of the UAG is solely advisory to ensure that the interests of industry, other non-Federal entities, and other institutions involved in leading aerospace research, science advancement, technology development, and space operations are represented in a balanced fashion within the National Space Council. My two subcommittees are 1) STEM Education, Diversity & Inclusion and Outreach; and 2) Climate and Societal Benefits. You can learn more about the UAG here: nasa.gov/usersadvisoryg… And about the NSpC here: https://lnkd.in/gdAnjyw6 You can read the entire Vice President’s NSpC speech here: https://lnkd.in/gn4Rqyg6 #Artemis #Astronaut #Moon #NASA #ArtemisAccord
