Something's Cooking.

Issue is all algorithms are dumb. They’re glorified if, else and sum statements that are only as smart as the product managers. Most product managers are increasingly MBAs that care about short term bottom line because that’s what their KPIs are. This is bad for the company long term. 1/2/3 being promoted is the result of this. 5/6/7 don’t get enough attention but that’s just a function of how humans think and interact. If I made a 5/6/7 post with an element of 2(the picture, not the useless part) just like you did, it would get more interest same as you have. As social companies switch to machine learning feeds to promote more engagement and higher quality content, they forget that their training dataset and their test dataset are both biased by the fact that they already promote low effort or inflammatory garbage. Garbage in, garbage out. It’s frustrating. It’s reality. The only solution is redoing the dataset by putting in the work. Use humans to hand select post. Use a large number of humans from different walks of life to reduce bias. That’s bad for the bottom line. It requires a restart. An overhaul of what everyone is comfortable with.

Building Unconventional

Here’s linkedin for me this week. Analysis of 100 posts. 1. 39 random videos, folklores, urban legends, humans saving animals, animals helping animals etc. nasueatingly forcefitted to some corporate “lesson” or “learning” by nobody-asked-you-for-anything gurus 2. 26 text + image posts with people posting absolutely unrelated and mostly remixed regurgitated still useless knowledge in text with their own photos or photos that can get likes - like a flying crocodile 3. 18 life hacks, work hacks, meeting hacks, this thing that you should do, that thing that you shouldn’t do etc. by people whose credentials are out there screaming for the publisher to be interrogated not even questioned on their own experiences/achievements/failures that led to the pearls of wisdom 4. 7 by linkedin trying to convince me to uprade to pro or pro max or something like that for better profile hits, reach, find out who viewed your profile etc etc HA HA. Again. 5. 5 hiring posts by my network. Well done. Thank God they found their way through the clutter. 6. 3 need to be hired posts by my network. Thank God these too found their way through the clutter 7. 2 really nice articles which didn’t look like an organization or an individual paid to be published. Serendipitous. What I would love to see from linkedin more in comparison to everything else between 1 to 4 🙏❤️ #linkedin P.S. The totally unrelated Cat pic because apparently it helps reaching more people because one thing professionals should learn from Cats is that they have nine lives and hence you can learn from them how not to fly an airplane amongst many other things you know🧘🏻♂️
