WHY NO JOBS AFTER PUBLIC HEALTH DEGREES? Graduates of public health programs in the US should not wait up to one year without employment. But why is this happening? One reason is a mismatch between academic qualifications and job readiness skills. Don't wait until graduation to be ready for employment. PUBLIC HEALTH 360—our public health workforce development program—is changing the narratives. Our fellows (some without public health degrees) are nailing the jobs. You, too, can. Stop the wait. www.myghep.org/ph360 #publichealth360 #publichealth #globalhealth #mch #publichealthjobs #employment #ph360

I recently responded to a prompt on ‘X’ which read; “Everyone who had “talks too much” on their report cards in school, what do y’all do for a living?”. 🤭🤭 My response was; “Talk, but not silly jokes again, and I’m not distracting my classmates - just trying to have people live their best, healthiest lives through engaging health education✨❤️” 🌟 So here’s what I do for a living as a Health Education Specialist - the LinkedIn version🌟 As a Health Education Specialist, my overarching goal is to empower communities with the knowledge and tools they need to live their best, healthiest lives. Just as Public Health is a multifaceted field, so are its subsets so, my role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, all aimed at promoting wellness and preventing disease. 📚 Education & Training: I develop and deliver engaging, impactful and easy, educational presentations that inform individuals about health topics and healthy practices/habits. 📊 Program Planning & Evaluation: I design (from inception to evaluation), implement and/or execute health education initiatives tailored to meet the specific needs of diverse populations. 🤝 Community Outreach: I build strong relationships with communities and organizations since collaboration is a major key in health education efforts and fostering a culture of health. 🔬 Research & Policy: I use (and gather) data and evidence-based practices to ensure that the information I provide is credible and current! Which sometimes results in advocating for health policies that promote health equity and access to health resources. These are not specific to any particular job as various roles may require different tasks. some not even listed here. However, my goal as a Health Education Specialist is to make a meaningful impact on public health by educating, inspiring, and supporting individuals and communities. I love that I get to merge my passion for people and health! 🌍❤️ #HealthEducation #PublicHealth #Wellness #CommunityHealth #HealthAdvocate #PreventiveCare

I am proud that Reach Out is part of the California Future Health Workforce Commission. Here, Jeff Oxendine, another member, explains the incredible opportunity we have to influence and impact healthcare in the state of California by bringing many entities and decision makers together. The Commission's charge is to build a more robust workforce by 2030, focused on three main objectives: 1) Public health and primary care 2) Behavioral health care (mental heath and substance use) 3) Older adult care / end of life care The Commission made 27 total recommendations to the state government - 10 were top priorities. From there, we saw many organizations raise more than $1B to invest into those top recommendations. One of these was to increase the pool of talented and diverse college students looking in those three areas for careers. This initiative created a health professions career opportunity program created for CA on 22+ campuses. The work following the commission also created additional capacity funding for schools like UC Riverside to take more students from the Inland Empire, and increase the number of residencies in CA overall. This will help to keep more medical professionals in the Inland Empire in the long run. Our goal locally is to build a pipeline of talented youth from our communities to find meaningful and rewarding work in the healthcare field and to STAY in our communities to live and work. #CaliforniaFutureHealthWorkforceCommission #healthcareimpact #publichealthcare #primarycare
