Oasis Fertility Centre Perth’s Post

April is Adenomyosis Awareness Month, shedding light on a little-known but serious uterine disorder. Some women who experience heavy periods, painful cramps, and/or discomfort during intercourse might have adenomyosis. A condition where uterine cells grow into the muscle wall. Symptoms can range from mild to severe, impacting daily life for those effected. While the exact cause remains unknown at this time, medical theories suggest it could be linked to surgery (after removing fibroids), developmental issues before birth, or post-childbirth inflammation. Diagnosis can be difficult, but imaging tests like ultrasounds or MRIs are shown to be helpful. Although adenomyosis can affect fertility, it's not a guarantee of infertility. Treatment options include medication, hormonal therapies, or even hysterectomy if symptoms are severe. If you believe you may have adenomyosis - please reach out to one of our fertility GPs and Specialists, or seek help from your own trusted health care provider.
