In The Making... Every year, the people on our beautiful planet discard 2.12 BILLION TONNES of stuff. Why don't we value these items more? If we were to understand more about what went into each product - the time people spent designing, developing, crafting items, or even working in non-fancy factories on a production line. Or the time it took for the planet to grow, nurture or create those materials we use to create them, as well as the people who risk their lives to extract these materials, the people who care for the trees we fell and everyone involved between there and the factories? If we understood the hard work by both people and nature, would we think twice about discarding them so readily? We have had such fascinating conversations in the curation of this exhibition as part of Material Matters 2024, starting next Wednesday 18th September. We've asked our handpicked exhibitors, commercial manufacturing companies of varying scales, to peel back the polished facade of their brands and tell us their real stories. Because we believe, that if you know how large companies create jobs sustaining whole communities, prevent traditional craftmanship from being lost from a region, or invest in products which prevent ill health, then maybe people will want to look after that product, reuse it, and save it from waste. Please join us, read the stories from our exhibitors, including Florim Ceramiche, MARK Product | Certified B Corp, Modus | B Corp™, Arper and many more and hopefully learn something about commercial manufacture that might make you think or design a bit differently. 18th-21st September, Bargehouse (behind the Oxo Tower) tp bennett Christopher Webb Phil Towle Alex Webb
Explore the journey behind commercial products at this year’s Material Matters Fair, 18-21 September. We are thrilled to partner with The Furniture Practice to present In The Making, a curated exhibition within Room 12 at Bargehouse, Oxo Tower Wharf, during London Design Festival. This exhibition will explore the ever-evolving relationship between materials, geography, people, and supply chains in the commercial sector. Designed and curated by tp bennett’s sustainability team in collaboration with TFP, In The Making examines the intricate details behind products from thirteen commercial furniture and interior brands, revealing the components, materials, and craftsmanship involved. A series of narrative zones will highlight the dedication of both humans and nature in bringing these products to market, encouraging discussions and fostering a deeper appreciation for how these items come to life and how we can value them for years to come. At the heart of the exhibition is a space for reflection and storytelling, which features demonstrations, inspiration sessions, workshops and presentations. Alongside this space is a festival bar created in partnership with Smile Plastics, showcasing the potential of waste materials. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to see, learn, and connect with suppliers, makers, and industry friends. Entry to the fair is free for trade, but advance registration is essential, find out more here: https://lnkd.in/e9UH5tt8 Exhibitors include: Arper, Camira x SAS, Florim Ceramiche, Fredericia Furniture, Humanscale, MARK Product | Certified B Corp x Bisley Furniture, Modus | B Corp™, Normann Copenhagen, Solus, Reddie, Smile Plastics, SURU, and Atrium #MaterialMatters #LondonDesignFestival #InTheMaking #DesignExhibition

I attended #Coverings in Atlanta for the first time and explored every inch of halls B and C. I checked out how companies from 40 countries designed and built their booths. My main objective was to hunt and gun for new opportunities. By the way, this is not a dirty secret, people! The design concepts, material choices, and overall execution of exhibitors' final exhibits and stands reflected how much they invest in hiring exhibit houses and labor companies that prioritize creativity, customization, innovation, waste reduction, use of sustainable materials, cost-efficiencies, and quality. While some exhibitors showcased beautiful and impressive booths, others fell short of meeting these standards. I spared nothing short of a big and beautiful, happy smile--and my charming personality--to diplomatically and "constructively" (there seemed to have been a lot of construction work at play with all that wood used ubiquitously throughout the show floor)--learn about and understand their approach and, in laser form, dig into the details, such as their challenges, pain points, the hassle they may have experienced before and during the show, and what would happen after the show. I was also sure to add my personal "just notice" feedback to share what I would have done differently and suggestions for the future. My second most important objective was to check the exhibitors' temperatures to determine if they were happy, okay, or dissatisfied with the final result. Oh and, the waste reduction and use of sustainable materials are quite a pity because all the slabs and tiles that ship from overseas get demolished along with the wood-constructed walls, pillars, trimming, and more. Exhibitors were separated by countries, from America (US) to Brazil, Canada, China, India, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Spain, South Korea, Thailand, Turkey, Vietnam, and many more. I felt as if I had taken a trip around the world, but what was most pedestrian about my global show floor journey was the sight of slabs and tiles of the most beautiful ceramics, marbles, and stones--handcrafted and even technologically engineered. Suffice it to say, I enjoyed a productive three days at the show and look forward to working with some of the companies that came to America, including some stateside, at Coverings 2025 in Orlando, Florida. Let's Go! #HappyProjects #TradeShows #LiveEvents #BrandActivations #Museums #RetailSpaces #ExhibitBuilding Happy Projects

Last month, when I visited the Colosseum in Rome, I couldn’t stop thinking about how it’s lasted almost 2,000 years. Imagine building something that timeless. Standing there, I realized it wasn’t just the scale of the Colosseum that amazed me—it was the thoughtfulness in its design. Sometimes we focus so much on short-term goals that we forget to ask, ‘Will this still matter years from now?’ Rome taught me that anything worth building, whether it’s a career, a legacy, or even how we present ourselves to the world, should have intention and purpose at its core. What are you building today that will last beyond tomorrow? I’ll start. For me, it’s designing with intention. Not just for today’s trends but for tomorrow’s impact. Great design isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s about creating experiences that resonate, solve problems, and stand the test of time.

Miles and miles and miles of infrastructure required to drive smart infrastructures. When we think about the intersection of residential luxury and commercial, the gap is closing rapidly. The luxury home is a commercial destination. Resimercial is more than an office that “looks” residential luxury. Resimercial opens the planning and execution of spaces that need and clamor for connected spaces experiences. The way the team works hand-in-hand with all the execution players is critical and demonstrable from real world experience. And in this case example, up and out of the way cabling gives away for what appears to be a data tree growing right out of the floor! The consideration of the integrated experience in a home or commercial space starts with the network and carries all the way through the settings where we live, play, learn, and work! #smarthome #luxuryhome #resimercial #commercial #commercialluxury #custom Lutron Electronics Savant Systems Spire Integrated Systems #excellence #companyculture

Now more than ever, leading the way in sustainability is essential. Material Dialogues is a 500 sqm space at the Stockholm Furniture Fair, featuring a café, a stage for seminars, and an exhibition dedicated to showcasing science-based solutions for addressing climate change in the furniture industry. The exhibition arranged by Emma Olbers also showcases a diverse array of innovative companies driving change, in which Fabric Forest is taking part. In the 1kg CO2e exhibition, different materials are shown together with their climate impact. By measuring carbon dioxide equivalents (CO2e) - the metric that is used to understand the climate impact of products - we can clearly see that our choice of materials is important. Stockholm Furniture fair - stand C15:40, Stockholmsmässan 4-8th of February. Februar 2025 HALL C 10:40 https://lnkd.in/dWh6VJNR P.Y.R stands for Protect Your Rights, and is an initiative to encourage questioning our times consumption, and appreciation habits. In a world where imitating, doing the same or copying - is favoured and rewarded by consumers' ignorance and desire to have everything at the lowest possible price. The P.Y.R chair is more than just a chair, it is a symbol of the importance of caring for our rights as creators. P.Y.R is a celebration of simplicity and a question of were the boundaries are between what is yours and what is mine. Could a great idea, turned into a simple product - obvious and easy to copy - still be protected by Intellectual Property laws - or should we just surrender and give it all away?
