I saw this quote written on the window of Paustian A/S in Copenhagen during 3daysofdesign, and think it sums up perfectly how we should approach sustainability - as a whole business, with longevity in mind. It takes an eye for design. Knowledge of materials. Concern for the environment. A love for furniture that can be used for generations. It takes respect for tradition. DIRTT's commitment to sustainable construction is a large part of what appealed to me about working with CE & DIRTT. I just read an article today from DIRTT speaking about how they've re-invented their packing material for shipping to be lighter and reuseable. They invented a little plastic piece that protects the product in shipping, its much lighter than wood crates, they then collect the pieces after shipping and ultimately send them back to the factory to be re-used, cutting down on the need to dispose of the heavy wood crating, avoiding landfills and reducing their carbon footprint with the reduction of the weight of freight. #PolyUDesign_TeachingLearning During the pandemic, public health has been increasingly emphasised, and creating a safe and inclusive environment for everyone has become a hot topic.    The "Immu Chaise," supported by Public Design Lab, Co-designer and project PI - Prof. Kin Wai Michael Siu and Designer - Chi Hang Paul Lo, is leather public furniture with antiviral material. It is composited with leather and other materials and has antimicrobial properties that prevent the growth of harmful microorganisms. Besides its antibacterial powers, antiviral leather is also environmentally friendly. The manufacturing process involves sustainable practices and materials, reducing environmental impact and a lower carbon footprint.    We are thrilled to announce that the project has received the prestigious Green Good Design Award 2024. Never heard of Cre SAM? No need to worry, very few people have. The SAM was built in 2001 by the long-defunct Swiss company Cree and was intended as an emission-free city vehicle for two people. The company only built 80 prototypes and went bankrupt shortly afterward. Interesting: the outer skin is double-walled thermoplastic made from recycled polymer.
