Interesting to see the resurgence of larger rounds - and not just in AI - and all being driven by the CVCs in the syndicate. Cour Pharmaceuticals, which targets the immune system, raised a $105 million Series A round including Roche Venture Fund, Pfizer, Bristol Myers Squibb, Angelini Ventures, and the JDRF T1D Fund; Seoul-based AI chipmaker Rebellions raised a $124 million Series B led by local data centre company KT; Figure AI, building a humanoid robot, is in the market to raise $500 million co-led by Microsoft and OpenAI, according to Bloomberg; Inari Agriculture, a seed designer, raised a $103 million round from Hanwha Impact among others; and Kore.ai, which provides conversational AI products, raised a $150 million round from Nvidia. By contrast, CB Insights notes VC investors are shifting their portfolios toward early-stage companies, which hit a recent high of 65% in the US in 2023. In Silicon Valley, that level was up to 74%, or roughly 3 in 4 deals. Chief Product Officer| Advisor and Angel Investor | Included VC Fellow (Class ‘23) | Start-up Mentor
I had the privileged to attend a great master class given by Clint Korver from Ulu Ventures about Venture Capital Decision Analysis, that to Included VC It was a very informative session on how decision analysis can be applied to VC and can help with bias in the Venture Capital industry. Clint, a Kaufmann fellow and Stanford PhD in Decision Analysis, has been a trailblazer in applying decision analysis to venture investments. A few takeaways: 🔍 Decision-making under Uncertainty: With 250+ investments over 15 years, Ulu Ventures stands out with their detailed 'Market Map' approach, answering two fundamental questions 1. What’s the chance of success? 2. What’s the value of success? 🧠 Addressing Biases: Clint highlighted the significant amount of bias in VC, emphasizing the dangers of cognitive and confirmation biases. 📊 Data-driven Approach and Quantifying Intangibles: Numbers are critical, even if they're hard to come by. Decision-making approaches help to remove biases, with a focus on clarity of thinking over mere narratives. 🔄 Evolving Framework: The model at Ulu Ventures is continually evolving with the latest changes. 🤖 AI in VC: Clint shared insights into the potential of AI in VC, emphasizing its strengths and limitations. While AI is powerful, venture capital is about envisioning how the world can change, however, AI can have niche uses, like scanning legal documents. 💡 Concluding Thoughts: Venture capital is a complex field, requiring intuition, analysis, and continuous learning. Would highly recommend checking out Clint's insights on Decision Analysis in Venture Capital. Decision Analysis in Venture Capital Workshop, DAAG 2019 https://lnkd.in/dC_HEUSn and Decision Analysis in Venture Capital on youTube https://lnkd.in/dkZqr5Mb Such sessions underscore the importance of a data-driven, yet intuitive, approach in the ever-evolving VC landscape. #venturecapital #uluventures #masterclass #innovation #startups #includedVC

💼 Last Saturday, I had the privilege of attending the esteemed London Venture Capital Network Summit. The event proved to be an invaluable opportunity to gain insights into the latest trends and developments shaping the industry. 🚀 💡 While all the talks and the startup pitch competition were highly informative and inspirational, the true highlight was the Gen AI Debate. The distinguished panel, comprising Thelma Onyeka from Akama Fund, Nic Rawhani from Vula, David Calderwood from RED Semiconductor, and Jonny Rose from The Story Club Ltd., provided a wealth of knowledge and thought-provoking perspectives on the current state and future trajectory of Gen AI. Furthermore, they engaged in a compelling discourse surrounding the role of intellectual property (IP) in protecting solutions in today's rapidly evolving technological landscape. 🔐 📹 One of the standout moments was Nic Rawhani's eloquent and lucid explanation of how we have arrived at the precipice of Gen AI. I have taken the liberty of attaching the video clip, as I believe it will resonate with many of you. 🤝 At BeeReal, we pride ourselves on staying ahead of the curve, continuously enhancing our expertise to better serve our esteemed clientele. As the Venture Capital ecosystem navigates the complexities and embraces the opportunities presented by disruptive technologies like Gen AI, we stand ready to support them in evolving into the next generation of sustainable internal solutions. #VentureCapital #DigitalTransformation #BeeReal #GenAI #Innovation #TechTrends
