I’ve experienced various definitions of creative terms (hook, angle, concept, format, value prop, audience, target, etc).
Arguably, there are different ways to define these (and if you ask 5 people in the DTC space they may give 5 slightly different answers).
But at the end of the day, you need internal definitions or things can quickly get confusing for your team.
Here are my definitions, would love to hears others’ thoughts!
𝐀𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 - Core group you are speaking to (can be broken into problem & solution aware/unaware)
𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫 - The product & price
𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐩 - Broad concept that speaks to an audience’s pain points/desires
𝐇𝐨𝐨𝐤 - Phrase or headline based on the value prop that catches the audience’s attention
𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭 - Visual representation of the hook
𝑬𝒙𝒂𝒎𝒑𝒍𝒆:
𝐀𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 - People with at least 1 dog
𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫 - Year subscription to biodegradable poop bags
𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐩 - Don’t run out of poop bags while protecting the environment
𝐇𝐨𝐨𝐤 - “Never again feel the guilt of leaving poop behind.”
𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭 - Image of a man walking with his dog, looking over his shoulder guiltily at the poop left on someone’s yard. Use hook as text overlay.
