🔥 Imagine if every time you put out a fire, you were required to start another one. That's the bizarre reality for clean energy in the U.S. today. Right now, the government can't move forward with clean wind unless it advances oil and gas drilling. We need to develop clean energy, like offshore wind, to help combat the worst impacts from climate change and #ProtectOurCoast. Speak up to protect our planet today: https://oceana.ly/3zfYioo

The pace of announcements from Government as it is (see: Chris Stark, Mission Control 2030!), sharing about onshore wind policy might seem like old news this week already! But, having projects I personally tried to develop in a previous job being stopped due to the well-known NPPF restrictions, the announcement of the immediate removal of these restrictions feels, personally, like a major 'moment' for the future of clean energy in the UK. As my colleague Rebecca summarised so eloquently to LBC below, onshore wind is a cheap, deployable and reliable form of energy generation that, if deployed effectively, can provide real benefits to local communities and to the wider energy system. #onshorewind #renewablenergy #planningpolicy #netzero

Thank you to LBC news for inviting me to speak about the removal of the planning restrictions for onshore wind in England. In this interview I highlighted that every new onshore wind farm will help to: 🔋 Increase our energy security 🛢 Reduce our reliance on foreign fossil fuels 🏘 Provide benefits to local communities

Consulting Senior Well & Drilling Engineer for Oil & Gas, Geothermal and CCUS. Advocate for Renewable Energy and the Oil & Gas sectors (when I have time!)
SOME COMMENTS FROM OUTSIDE OIL & GAS ON THE 2030 UK GOVERNMENT DEADLINE TO DELIVER A NET ZERO POWER SYSTEM... Nick Werner - Government Independent Electricity Network Commissioner "The best accelerated time to connect Wind Farms to homes is 7 years". It would typically take 10-14 years. David Newbery - Director of the Energy Policy Research Group at Cambridge University "Getting Britain's National Grid to Net Zero emissions by 2030 will be impossible". Heading up the new Government 'Mission Control Unit' tasked with overhauling electricity supply is Chris Stark. I wish him luck. I am not saying we should not do these things. We will have to, at some point... I do say that attempting to perform miracles on an unsubstantiated time line is a recipe for a costly train wreck. We will live with the legacy of whatever is achieved by 2030 for decades, and it won't be pretty! Sacrificing the Oil & Gas industry as a simultaneous operation would not be on my Matrix Of Permitted Operations for concurrent operations either... A train wreck delivered by 'Mission Control' and a decimated Oil & Gas industry would hardly leave us with Energy Security!

FROM THE CURRENT ISSUE: "It is becoming clear for the United States to reach its decarbonization target of net-zero emissions by 2050, a robust offshore wind sector will be an important piece of the puzzle. The federal government has recognized this and, in response, has set an ambitious target of 30 gigawatts of offshore wind capacity by 2030. In the past few years, that shift toward making offshore wind more of a priority has made headway." America is the world’s leading producer of natural gas and oil right now, but that leadership accumulated over decades, thanks to sound policies and industry grit and innovation. It must be maintained and strengthened through consistent policies that fortify America’s energy advantage, such as responsible access to federal lands and waters and commonsense permitting reform. Thanks to U.S. natural gas and oil, policymakers can chart a path that will allow Americans to share in the benefits of a future marked by affordable, reliable and cleaner energy.

The Biden administration is looking at whether climate considerations need to be addressed for liquefied natural gas (LNG) export projects which could greatly impact LNG export growth. 👇🏽 More broadly, this change could impact decarbonization goals, business development prospects for energy developers, as well as national and allied energy security interests. The projects at risk of impacts from revised policy are those with a non-FTA authorization pending and any with an existing non-FTA authorization that could expire before the project’s export commencement date.
