🌊🎷 On Tuesday, we gathered in New York City for “An Evening of Jazz,” presented by Blancpain, to celebrate our oceans! We were thrilled to be joined by the talented Rumer Willis and Brian Newman, and honored that distinguished guests like Oceana Board Members Ted Danson, Susan Rockefeller, and Sam Waterston all came together to support Oceana’s mission to protect and restore the world’s oceans!   As Ted Danson said, “Every Oceana victory belongs to all of us—because we are making change together!” https://oceana.ly/4gklvHc 

This North Atlantic right whale is in serious jeopardy. Dropcloth—an older whale with sightings going back to 1978— was spotted suffering from his fifth known entanglement in late July 2024. In poor condition, Dropcloth’s injuries are serious, and without intervention, he is tragically likely to die from this entanglement. Every day, North Atlantic right whales must fight for their lives, navigating waters where boat strikes and deadly fishing gear threaten their survival. With only 356 right whales left in the world, including just 70 breeding females, time is running out. To save them from extinction, we must act now! When a plastic bottle enters the ocean, it doesn’t stay a bottle forever! Instead, plastics break up into smaller and smaller pieces in the ocean. These microplastics can be swallowed by tiny marine animals, and when larger animals eat those animals, they’re unknowingly eating plastic too. Ocean wildlife that eat too many microplastics could suffer serious side effects, including internal injuries, feeding less, and even serious behavior changes that threaten the animal’s health and long-term survival. Marine life should not have to pay the price for our plastic crisis!
