https://lnkd.in/gGhnERE8 Discover Ocean Connectors in just 30 seconds! Since 2007, we've been dedicated to bringing marine science to students in National City, California, and Nayarit, Mexico, through free in-class presentations and outdoor field trips. Our mission extends further with Eco Tours, where the community actively participates, enjoying educational and recreational experiences that directly support our Education Programs through ticket proceeds. Additionally, our community events offer the opportunity to give back through a restoration event or kayak cleanup today! Rystraumen near Tromsø, northern Norway, as seen in the oceanbox tool. Colors show velocity magnitude up 2 m/s. On eastward flow, the tidal circulation generates two counter rotating eddies on each side of the tidal jet. This dipole guides the tidal jet towards the mainland and keeps moving away from the strait also after reversal of the tidal flow. Such dipole eddies play an important role for net transport of properties through tidal straits (see https://lnkd.in/dDhBT_qa).

Shipping noise seems to be ever increasing and defines the soundscape of the world's oceans. How does this affect marine mammals relying on acoustic orientation and communication? We studied the occurence of harbour porpoises in a very busy waterway in the Baltic Sea and have now published the results. Median shipping noise levels significantly affected the distribution of harbor porpoises in the study area, but little habitat displacement appeared as a result. This finding might reflect habituation and a trade-off, where the benefits for the porpoises to stay in the study area outweigh the disruptions of disturbance due to underwater noise exposure. Video runs 4:01 #DamRemoval #KlamathRiver #KlamathRiverRenewalProject #LowerKlamathProject #FERCNo14083 #KlamathRiverRenewalCorporation #ResourceEnvironmentalSolutions #RES "California poppies (Eschscholzia californica), common fiddleneck (Amsinckia menziesii), and chick lupine (Lupinus microcarpus var densiflorus) are in their first bloom at the former Iron Gate and Copco Reservoirs. These hardy species are native to California and thrive in disturbed soils. Their special powers have been recruited to help prevent not just soil erosion but to reduce the advance of undesirable plant species such as sheet grass and star thistle. First spread by hand, successive generations will make their way to the river's edge helping secure soil while making way for shrubs and trees. A fun fact here is these poppies are only in the seed mix dispersed by hand along the reservoir's former shoreline. Helicopter reseeding of the lower reaches didn't include the poppies. Ongoing reseeding efforts are part of the Klamath River Renewal Project also known as the Lower Klamath Project (FERC No. 14083) being managed by the Klamath River Renewal Corporation. In addition to the removal of four hydroelectric dams the project involves massive restoration of the former reservoirs. Restoration is managed by RES (Resource Environmental Solutions), headquartered out of Houston Texas and self-described as "the nation's largest ecological restoration company focused on restoring a resilient earth for a modern world.""

This is a big deal! “If it works here, it will work anywhere” said the Andrew Parsons; Christopher Hearn continued “We are innovative by nature because we had to be”; "Kraken Robotics mantra is ‘innovate or die’” David Shea concluded. This is what the ocean technology sector is all about in Newfoundland and Labrador. #ocean #oceans #oceantech #oceantechnology #innovation #oceansupercluster #researchanddevelopment #marineindustries #marinetechnology #marineindustry #oceanofopporutnities #oilandgas #offshore #bluetech #blueeconomy #aquaculture #fishery #shipping #defence #shipbuilding #energy #arctic #renewableenergy #cleantech #harshenvironment #RemoteOperations #researchanddevelopment #artificialintelligence #ai #oceansai
Earlier this year I was invited to St. John’s, Newfoundland & Labrador, to discover how the cumulative #maritime, #offshore #energy and #subsea #industries have developed. I have a fairly long, nearly 20-year relationship traveling north of #NewYorkCity, up the Atlantic coast of North America to its easternmost point and finding what is arguably one of the nicest, one of the heartiest and one of the most #innovative populations per capita in the world. It had been many years since I last made the trek to St. John’s – but to be fair the Covid years put a hold on many trips – and what I found exceeded expectation. Companies once small have emerged into world #leaders; led by the #government, there is palpable growth and #investment in the #technology, people and #infrastructure, investment to both help local companies grow and investment to attract international partners and collaborators. “If it works here, it will work anywhere” said the Andrew Parsons; Christopher Hearn continued “We are innovative by nature because we had to be”; "Kraken Robotics mantra is ‘innovate or die’” David Shea concluded. Those are not simply catch phrases. Newfoundland & Labrador holds a unique geographic position jutting out into the Atlantic Ocean, giving it a literal front row seat to a confluence of differing environmental forces; forces which can make life difficult, but can also help to develop a sharp group of innovators that must invent to survive. With that, I welcome you to the special Newfoundland & Labrador supplement to Marine Technology Reporter, Maritime Reporter and Engineering News and Offshore Engineer Magazine. ‘Thanks you’ too, to all friends in the region – old and new – that took their time and effort to help contribute to this publication. What follows is simply a glimpse of the opportunities that await. https://lnkd.in/eZxMF_Vt #shipsandshipping #maritimeindustry #subseatechnology #offshore #offshoreindustry #Canada #NewfoundlandandLabrador Oceans Advance Inc.
