Disappointing news from the Argerich-1 exploration well offshore Argentina!
The #Argerich exploration campaign hailed as a potential game-changer for #Argentina, faced a significant setback with the recent results. High hopes were pinned on this campaign due to the geologically prolific Atlantic margin region, renowned for its promising basin analog features and mirroring the immense potential seen on the African side of the Atlantic. The Argerich-1 well, a collaboration between #Equinor, state-controlled #YPF (35%), and #Shell (30%), aimed to unlock Argentina's #offshore hydrocarbon potential.
This setback comes at a time when there's renewed interest in the region, with Argentina and #Uruguay looking to replicate the hydrocarbon successes seen in #Namibia. The Argerich-1 well could have been a positive starting point, paving the way for future offshore exploration.
Despite this disappointment, the interest in Argentina’s offshore prospects remains strong. It will be fascinating to see how the offshore exploration scene in Argentina unfolds, as the industry adapts and continues to seek out new opportunities in the region.
Stay tuned for more developments in this evolving landscape!
The Valaris DS-17 has completed operations on the Argerich-1 wildcat on Block CAN-100 offshore Argentina. The rig is now in transit back to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where it will remain under contract with Equinor. Argerich-1 was a dry well.
The Fast4Ward hull, developed by SBM Offshore, is designed to enhance the performance and speed of delivering floating production solutions. Here are its main features:
· 100% New-Build Hull: Designed for a 30-year lifespan.
· Increased Deck Space: Offers 13% more deck space compared to Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCC) and a 30% larger topsides footprint.
· Storage Capacity: Capable of storing up to 2.3 million barrels.
· Standardization: Utilizes a standard hull and topsides catalogue to reduce cycle time to energy delivery and de-risk projects.
· Digital Solutions: Incorporates digital technologies like Digital Twin and preventive maintenance for continuous advancements.
· Multi-Purpose Floater (MPF): While it's not fully standardized due to varying field development needs, the MPF allows for standardized layouts, components, and equipment with the flexibility for bespoke features.
These features aim to provide better economics for deep-water projects by reducing delivery times and costs while improving quality and safety.

Barracuda-Caratinga FPSO tender postponed
Petrobras has once again postponed the Barracuda-Caratinga #tender proposal deadline. While the market often interprets this as a reflection of Petrobras's diminished ability to attract players, especially in light of the single offer result for SEAP I and II, the reality is different. The number of FPSO operators has actually increased in recent years with the entry of BW Offshore, Yinson, and MISC Group. On the local shipyard front, Seatrium has also strengthened its position, committing to the utilization of their combined Angra dos Reis and Aracruz facilities.
The complexity of projects has significantly increased, with advancements in technology such as electrification and Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) gaining prominence. Petrobras's tenders are highly prescriptive, and their demanding requirements as charterers lead to naturally longer and more detailed tender processes.
We anticipate that #Petrobras will address the current FPSO tenders with renewed focus and soon resolve the SEAP units, continuing its growth trajectory in the segment.

CHANGES ON NEWBUILDS TENDER
This week Petrobras has disclosed some significant changes to the ongoing public tender set to charter up to 12 newbuild PSVs. The opportunity was also postponed once again, now with a deadline until September 13th 2024. Amongst the changes to the tender, #Petrobras opted to increase the maximum amount of awards per bidder from 4 to 6 vessels, which added 2 more batches for 8-year firm contract duration and 2 for 10-year firm contract duration. Additionally, Petrobras created 6 entirely new batches for 12-year firm contract duration, with the same specifications and mobilization strategy as the original batches.
Considering the increase in awards per bidder and inclusion of batches for 12-year contracts, the opportunity now counts with 18 batches available for bidders to offer, rather than the original 8. If you wish to get more details about this opportunity and other offshore-related news, reach us out at comercial@wsb-advisors.com.
