Netherlands-based Hebo Maritiemservice BV has acquired the shallow-water pipe-lay barge Tog Mor from Swiss offshore contractor Allseas Group SA, demonstrating that age is no barrier when recognising the value of a proven asset. Tog Mor (‘Big Lift’ in Gaelic) was built in 1976 by Nederlandsche Dok en Scheepsbouw Mij. V.o.f. Amsterdam, which means it is now approaching its 50th birthday. Originally built as a heavy-duty floating derrick barge at the time of rapid expansion in the North Sea offshore oil and gas industry, its design included Stülcken masts and the capability of assembling large sections and modules for offshore platforms. In 1997 it was purchased by Allseas and converted for pipe-lay and construction activities, including for the Scotland-Ireland inter-connector pipeline project. It went on to safely install more than 400km of nearshore pipeline worldwide. “Her robust design, impressive tension holding capacity and lifting power made her indispensable on dozens of projects requiring stability and strength in challenging conditions,” said Allseas. Disappointing news from the Argerich-1 exploration well offshore Argentina! The #Argerich exploration campaign hailed as a potential game-changer for #Argentina, faced a significant setback with the recent results. High hopes were pinned on this campaign due to the geologically prolific Atlantic margin region, renowned for its promising basin analog features and mirroring the immense potential seen on the African side of the Atlantic. The Argerich-1 well, a collaboration between #Equinor, state-controlled #YPF (35%), and #Shell (30%), aimed to unlock Argentina's #offshore hydrocarbon potential. This setback comes at a time when there's renewed interest in the region, with Argentina and #Uruguay looking to replicate the hydrocarbon successes seen in #Namibia. The Argerich-1 well could have been a positive starting point, paving the way for future offshore exploration. Despite this disappointment, the interest in Argentina’s offshore prospects remains strong. It will be fascinating to see how the offshore exploration scene in Argentina unfolds, as the industry adapts and continues to seek out new opportunities in the region. DeepOcean will deploy the vessel for subsea operations such as inspection, maintenance, and repair on Equinor installations. Ottar Mæland, Chief Operating Officer of DeepOcean, described the ship as “the next generation subsea vessel”. “The vessel, named Rem Ocean, will be the 83rd ship built by Myklebust Shipyard, which also has an option to build a second, similar vessel for Rem Offshore. Leiv Sindre Muren, CEO of Myklebust Verft Shipyard, emphasized the significance of the contract as the largest in the shipyard’s history. The project will generate substantial activity for subcontractors, including Skipsteknisk AS and several other Norwegian suppliers."
