Here are three new changes UEFA have made to their Women's Champions League format that will benefit the women's game... 1. There will be an increase in the number of teams competing in the group stage. Up to 18 clubs from the current 16, this minimal change will expose more non-champion clubs to European football. 2. The 18 teams will be ranked in three seeding pots based on UEFA's latest club-coefficient ranking and drawn to play two clubs from each pot during the league stage. Instead of playing three teams home and away during the autumn, teams will now face six different opponents once, either home and away, skewing the fairness of the competition. 3. For those teams failing to come through the qualifying rounds of the UEFA Women's Champions League, there is now the potential parachute of going into a new second tier competition, mirroring the UEFA Europa League in the men's game and further exposing more clubs to European football. These changes will take effect in the 2025/26 season. #wsl #womenseuefa #uefachampionsleague #womensfootball #football #womenschampionsleague

On Saturday June 1st (2024.06.01) we watched the UEFA Champions League final. In terms of the current state of world football, what does it mean which two teams were these and what does the way they played mean? This situation is best described by this quote: The problem is not that the world cannot feed the poor, but that the rich still anyhow cannot get enough... Look at the statistics of the Champions League winners: https://lnkd.in/eeKV-QJU Just the icing on the cake: Real Madrid is ahead by a wide margin, it has 15 titles, and the club in 2nd place has only 7. Further, the first 8 places have 3 or more titles. That is, only 8 clubs! Then, 15 clubs have 2 or 1 titles. And this is a total of 23 clubs that have titles. But do you know how many clubs there are on Earth? ~42 000! And 23 from 42 000 is 0.00055%! Not even 1%, it is 0.00055%! Realize this! Okay, UEFA probably have 1/5 from the world's number. We can multiply 0.00055 on 5 = 0.00275. Guys, still 2 zeros after the point. How do you like it? :) Rich people, who control football clubs, schools, services, organizations, federations, and especially bookmakers, have usurped power. They are ready to stew in their own juice, and, in most cases, they do not care about the development of football around the world. And there is no point in calling them to shame and conscience, since these are people for whom these feelings have become a rudiment. Football didn't ask you to interfere with it with your money. However, you came and established your own rules, occupying the wonderful spirit of the game, spoiling it with your notorious marketing. And this is what I will tell you. The decline of your era has begun. Hurry up to collect your belongings before they turn into dust. Over the next few years, the football world will begin to change. And it no longer depends on you. Bye bye!

Sports ⚽️ Football “It has been a season without European football for Tottenham, but will Ange Ange Postecoglou's side settle for Europa League qualification?England will get five Champions League places if the performances of Premier League teams in all three European competitions this term is enough to earn a fifth spot via one of Uefa's 'Performance Slots'."It’s not a Willy Wonka golden ticket, it just gets you a year in the Champions League, but if you don’t grown on that then it’s pointless."We’re not going to be in it for participation either, we’re in it to win things."Yes it shows progression but has the football progressed and are we a stronger team? That’s more important. My target has been to create a team that lays foundations to win things. That's where it begins and ends."If we make Champions League, then sure it’s been a decent year."Your development is your development. If you’re getting stronger then those things don’t even come into the situation. If you think it’s your golden ticket to endless riches then there’s evidence that it’s not the case."BBC

The new 2024/25 UEFA Conference League 🚀 Rising revenues for football clubs. ✅ The new format ☑ Revenues will rise for the teams ☑ There won't be more matches: ▪ For the 1st phase there will remain six. ▪ The 36 teams will be placed in a single classification (no more rounds). ✅ $ Prizes UEFA has allocated €285m/season for the next 3 years (vs €255m) ☑ How will the €285m be distributed? ▪ 40% to qualified clubs: €114m (vs €94m last cycle) ▪ 40% to performance-related results: €114m (vs €94m) ▪ 20% will be allocated to the new calculation (instead of the market pool) just created by UEFA: €57m (vs €47m) 1️⃣ The starting quota - €114m Each of the 36 clubs qualifying for the group stage will receive an allocation of €3.17m 2️⃣ Performance bonuses - €114m Will be awarded for each match in the group stage: ✔ €400K per win ✔ €133K per draw More: ▪ The undistributed amounts - €133K per draw - will be pooled and redistributed among the clubs according to the league phase standings. ▪ As there will no longer be a group division, there will be no bonuses for the first and second runners-up (€650K and €325K respectively). ▪ Based on the final ranking of the first phase, teams will receive bonuses (1 to 36 quota worth €28K) Plus: ▪ Teams that finish in the top 8 of the first phase standings: will receive an additional €400K (automatically qualified for the round of 16) ▪ Teams from 9th to 16th place will receive an additional €200K. (will have to play a play-off round among themselves to enter the knockout phase). ▪ The others will be eliminated and receive no prize. ✅ $ Prizes Knockout phase Clubs that qualify for the knockout phase can expect: 🔸 Qualification to the round of 16 play-offs: €200K per club (vs €300K in the 2021/24 cycle). 🔸 Qualification to the round of 16: €800K per club (vs €600K) 🔸 Qualification to the quarter-finals: €1.3m per club (vs €1m) 🔸 Qualification to the semi-finals: €2.5m per club (vs €2m) 🔹 Qualification to the final: €4m per club (vs. €3m in the 2021/24 cycle) 🏆 The winning team: €3m (vs €2m in the previous cycle) 3️⃣ UEFA's new distribution criterion - €57m This mechanism replaces the market pool and the historical ranking (21/24 cycle) that weighed the same %. This criterion is split in two and will focus on the share of television rights. ✅ Final Thoughts I don't think we should define the Conference as the 3rd cup. Or as a little trophy. It's a tournament that allows 36 more to compete in Europe. To some 600 players to measure themselves against teams they have never faced. ❗ Too many fans to dream of a trophy. 👉 The increased prizes will make: 🔹 the Conference League more important 🔹 the national leagues more competitive, where clubs will fight to the last for a place in this European competition. ❓ Who will be the next Champion? #footballbusiness #sportbiz #linkedinsports

UEFA has recently announced major changes to the Champions League format starting from the 2024-25 season. Say goodbye to the traditional group stage and welcome the new "Swiss model"! Under this innovative structure, the Champions League will expand to feature 36 teams in the group stage, offering a more inclusive and dynamic tournament experience. Each team will play eight matches—four at home and four away—bringing more excitement and variety to the competition. But let's take this opportunity to spark a discussion about the potential for creating new European competitions, inspired by UEFA's bold move. Imagine a tournament where second division finalists from across Europe battle it out on the international stage. Picture Hamburg from the Bundesliga 2 facing off against Leeds United from the EFL (English Football League) —a clash of titans that could captivate football fans worldwide. Second leagues in Europe have tremendous potential, with audience percentages on the rise. In Germany, the second Bundesliga has even surpassed the average audience of the first Bundesliga, proving that lower division football is gaining traction and popularity. So, what are your thoughts? Can international competitions for lower division teams work? Can they provide a platform for clubs and fans to showcase their passion and promote the club for beneficial exposure?⚽🌍 #EuropeanFootball #ChampionsLeague #FootballInnovation Oleksandr KucheriavyiHelmut SpahnAlfredo RodríguezYann GuerinKevin Yalale-MatufueniRebecca (Bex) SmithYoann MonschIgor MasnjakAnthony BlochElizabeth E.
