I know you all have been on the edge of your seats, waiting to see how this bee drama unfolds.
Well.
I checked the hive over the weekend and saw multiple stages of larvae, so all indications show that the queen is alive and well, creating new bees and making that hive a home.
I’ll continue to check in and add supers when they need more space, cut off queen cells if they feel like making another mutiny, and will wait to get past the summer solstice - the peak of swarm season - when bees are most inclined to take off en masse to find better digs.
Summer for beekeeping is a great time. There are honey flows, honey harvests, and massive growth in a beehive. Times are good, but even in June the diligent beekeeper has an eye toward the winter, making sure there are enough reserves to get the hive through lean times and the right hive structure to sustain them.
I'll leave my business metaphors unspoken for this one.
