SIRE 2.0:
SIRE 2.0's phase rollout, marking a pivotal moment in maritime inspection standards. Currently in Phase 1, a select group of Inspectors, Submitting Companies, and Vessel Operators are rigorously testing the end-to-end system, under the guidance of the OCIMF Secretariat.
* Phase 1 aims to ensure seamless transitions and optimal performance, with * Phase 2 slated to activate following successful Phase 1 completion. As participants gear up for Phase 2, they'll navigate the system independently, readying themselves for the forthcoming phases.
Excitingly,
* Phase 3 will invite all SIRE programme users to experience SIRE 2.0 firsthand, fostering familiarity and testing readiness before the official launch.
In tandem, the distribution of tablet devices ensures Inspectors are equipped for success, with dedicated support services in place to facilitate smooth operations.
As we chart our course forward, the SIRE 2.0 Phase Roll-Out Timetable offers a clear roadmap, ensuring alignment with industry standards and best practices.

A summary that is good for you to know.............👍
Stay well n stay safe onboard.🙏
The 108th session of the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) in May 2024 focused on enhancing maritime safety, with a significant step forward concerning crew wellbeing.
Focus on Preventing and Responding to Sexual Harassment, Bullying, and Sexual Assault:
The MSC adopted amendments to the Seafarers' Training, Certification and Watchkeeping Code (STCW Code). These amendments aim to prevent and respond to incidents of sexual harassment, bullying, and sexual assault within the maritime sector.
The amendments are included in table A-VI/1-4 ("Specification of minimum standard of competence in personal safety and social responsibilities") of the STCW Code.
This signifies a mandatory requirement for all seafarers to undergo specific training aimed at:
*Understanding and recognizing sexual harassment, bullying, and sexual assault.
*Learning effective prevention strategies.
*Knowing proper reporting procedures for such incidents.
Impact of the Amendment:
This is a significant development towards creating a safer and more respectful work environment for seafarers, particularly women who are often disproportionately affected by these issues.
Equipping seafarers with the knowledge and tools to recognize and report these incidents is crucial for creating a culture of zero tolerance.
Important Notes:
The amendments are expected to enter into force on January 1, 2026. This allows training providers and maritime administrations time to develop and implement the necessary training programs.
While the MSC focused on sexual harassment in this session, they also acknowledge the importance of addressing bullying and sexual assault. The training will likely encompass all three issues.
