There are many nuggets that I keep finding as I re-read Richard Chambers latest offering, Agents of Change - Internal Auditors in the Era of Pemracrisis. But the following paragraph sums up what every CAE needs to be thinking and convincing their respective Audit Committees. "Internal Auditors must realise and accept that the profession's bread and butter processes, annual risk assessments, rigid, risk-based annual audit plans, lengthy audit engagements, verbose, narrative-driven reports, - are relics that position practitioners to only address yesterday's challenges. This reinforces my long-held belief that internal audit must take a continuous approach to risk assessment and assurance - auditing at the speed of risk". If we are displaying to our stakeholders that we only work the way we always have, then convincing them to change simply won't wash!
