UK parliamentary research briefing on sanctions against countries supporting Russia’s invasion of Ukraine The UK House of Commons Library has published a research briefing on the response of the UK, US, and EU to third countries that provide direct support for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The briefing notes that while sanctions have not been imposed on nations for continuing to trade with Russia, the US and allies have increasingly targeted nations and organizations allegedly assisting Russia in conducting the war in Ukraine or in evading sanctions. The Library specifically highlights Belarus, Iran, North Korea and China, and provides analysis of US, UK, and EU sanctions against them. #UKSanctions #Russia #EUCommission #ExportControl #TradeWar #TSECS #SanctionsUpdate #TurkishSociety #Sanctions #USA #OFAC #BIS #TradeUpdates #GlobalTrade #TradeCompliance #InternationalRelations #EconomicSanctions #TradeRegulations #TurkishExports #TradePolicy #SecurityMatters #ForeignPolicy #ComplianceNews #EconomicSecurity #CrossBorderBusiness

How has the UK-EU cooperation on sanctions against Russia evolved since 2022? What are the challenges in 2024? Tom Keatinge, Director of CFCS, shared his insights with the UK House of Lords European Affairs Committee to inform its policy recommendations. https://lnkd.in/dEjqEiTe The only way forward for sanctions is building alliances, Tom highlighted. He underlined the “extremely close working co-operation” between the UK and the EU on sanctions, and the regular joint visits of UK, US, and EU sanctions envoys to third countries as key examples of coordination. Tom also discussed the findings of the #SIFMANet network, noted the increase in implementation capacity in EU Member States, and raised his concern about the state of sanctions enforcement – which has to be the buzzword of 2024. 📚 Read the report here: https://lnkd.in/gqJpSnwB 📑 To learn more about how to make sanctions work in 2024, read the latest SIFMANet Recommendations here: https://lnkd.in/gRnscaik #sanctions #sanctionscoalition #UK #EU #US #Russia

The UK Ministry of Defence has published a defence intelligence update related to sanctions on Russia, noting that: according to research from the Bank of Finland Institute for Emerging Economies, third party countries are charging price premiums of over 60% for exports of certain sanctioned goods to Russia; while Russia has increased production of key munitions, the impact of sanctions is highly likely greatest on Russia’s more advanced and complex weapons systems, which almost certainly have increased reliance on foreign components; and according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, Russia’s share of the global arms trade has fallen to 11% in the period 2019 to 2023 compared to 21% in the period 2014 to 2018. #ExportControl #TradeWar #TSECS #SanctionsUpdate #TurkishSociety #Sanctions #USA #OFAC #BIS #TradeUpdates #GlobalTrade #TradeCompliance #InternationalRelations #EconomicSanctions #TradeRegulations #TurkishExports #TradePolicy #SecurityMatters #ForeignPolicy #ComplianceNews #EconomicSecurity #CrossBorderBusiness

After more than a month of negotiations, EU members have agreed on a 14th package of sanctions against Russia. The new restrictions are intended to make it harder for the Kremlin to access technology and to limit its revenues from energy exports. The new sanctions are to be approved on 24 June 2024. The package will strengthen EU mechanisms to prevent the circumvention of sanctions, particularly for third-country subsidiaries of EU-based companies. The tightening of EU regulations will also apply to financial services. The new restrictions will also apply to exports of dual-use goods and technologies (including to third countries) that Russia may use in the war against Ukraine. The sanctions list will be expanded to include more than 100 new individuals and entities. In total, it will include more than 2,200 items. #penteris #europeanunion #ukraine #russia #war #sanctions #investments #litigationlawyer
