estonian simultaneous interpreter | education, e-gov, e-health & digitalization | | tour guide ( POR, SPA, ENG, EST, RUS)
Best visual explanation of why is important to have 2 interpreters on an event.
Conference interpreter and speech-to-text interpreter, AIIC pre-candidate, member of VKD and ASKOT EN <> DE, CS <> DE,
I am sure this has been posted by other interpreters before, but I am just on the way home from an assignment in Brussels - and I came across this announcement and what is valid for pilots is also valid for conference interpreters, don’t we all agree? It always takes two to tango no matter if it’s on the plane or in the booth!

I had a PSA on the VIP Seat this week to fellow aviation folks: we’re all full with the “Jet Blank” names. Second time guest host on The VIP Seat with Jessie Naor where we talked about all the news from the past week in business aviation. Had a lot of fun and we had some hot takes! Are you familiar with the Extended Minimum Crew Operations or eMCO concept? Today, EASA had the honor to present to the ICAO’ Air Navigation Commission (during an informal briefing called “ANC Talk”) how the Agency addresses this concept. eMCO aims to harness advanced automation and technology to facilitate and regulate crew rest during the cruise phase of long-haul flights. My colleagues Andrea Boiardi, Chief Expert, and Gianluca Mele, Flight Test Engineer, outlined the general principles and the Concept of Operations being explored in Europe, and our approach to the Safety Case, along with the on-going actions and Research activities in this field. The ANC commissioners and observers posed numerous questions regarding the safety case approach and on the airworthiness and operational implications of this new concept of operations that is being explored. EASA focus is on the potential safety and operational benefits without prejudging future conclusions.

Let’s talk about in-flight entertainment today. 📺 When did it all start, and how has it changed over the years? In 1921, Aeromarine Airways pioneered inflight entertainment by playing ‘Howdy Chicago’ to promote the city. Imperial Airways in 1926 elevated the experience by screening ‘The Lost World’ when flying over Germany, complemented by a live orchestra courtesy of the Berlin Broadcasting Station. However, both of these examples were short-lived. Trans-World Airlines (TWA) was the one who introduced scheduled inflight entertainment in 1961 by adapting projection technology for aircraft cabins. They made it possible to project any movie on their flights and revolutionized the passenger experience. 💺 Since then, the technologies have only been improving. Today, first and business-class passengers can expect monitor-sized displays for entertainment, while those in the economy are provided with tablet-sized screens. People speculate that in the future, the screens may disappear altogether, and travelers will use their own devices instead. What are your thoughts on this? And what’s your favorite form of entertainment on board? 🍿 Let’s chat in the comments! 👇 #AviaSolutionsGroup #AviationIndustry #Aviation

English is the language of the air. This means that all pilots have to identify themselves and speak in English while flying, regardless of their origin.

How do you manage significant background noise during a live audience session? This week I had the privilege of chairing a panel discussion on behalf of Hybrid Air Vehicles Ltd at the 2024 Farnborough Air Show. By the time we kicked off there was a decent sized audience clustered around the stand, unsurprisingly, given #netzero is a topic uppermost in the minds of the aviation community and the #airlander aircraft is attracting significant attention. Unfortunately, a couple of minutes in, the event was disrupted by the roaring of jet engines as an air display got underway with a flight path close to the pavilion. At times it soundly like the aircraft were actually overhead! It’s hardly a secret that exhibition halls pose acoustic challenges but this took things to a different level. Here’s some tips on how as a presenter or panel leader you might deal with this type of situation: 1. Don’t panic! Rabbit caught in headlights is rarely a good look. Stay calm and confident, raise your voice but resist the temptation to shout 2. Make a judgement about when to pause and when to re-commence. Take a cue from your audience and observe if they are straining to hear 3. Use humour where appropriate. A well-timed joke or comment acknowledging the cause of the disruption (in this case a dig at Ryanair’s expense) will keep listeners onside 4. Maintain eye contact with your audience around the stand. If you come across as dispirited they will drift away 5. Finally, when the disruption is over, make sure you thank them for sticking around. They will appreciate it. In conclusion I should say that it helps to be alongside great panellists like George Land David Holden, FRAeS and Luis Enrique de la Iglesia y Gotarredona "Quique" and to be on such a visually impactful and well-organised stand Hannah Cunningham thanks to you all #fia2024 #airline
