Noise control isn't just about comfort—it's about creating optimal learning and working environments. Acoustics play a crucial role in creating comfortable and effective learning and working environments. In classrooms, poor acoustics can lead to decreased speech intelligibility, causing students to miss vital information and making it harder for teachers to communicate effectively. In workplaces, excessive noise can lead to decreased productivity, increased stress, and fatigue. SoundTech Acoustics panels are designed to address these challenges by absorbing excess noise and minimising reverberation, creating spaces that support concentration and effective communication. The crucial role of classroom acoustics in learning & retention At D&B, we recognize the often overlooked importance of classroom acoustics in enhancing learning and retention. Poor acoustics can lead to issues such as reverberation, background noise, and reduced speech intelligibility, all of which negatively impact both teaching and student performance. Key Problems and Solutions: - Reverberation causes echoes, making it hard for students to understand their teachers and classmates. - Background noise distracts students and lowers test scores. - Poor speech intelligibility hampers learning, especially for students with hearing impairments. - Effective solutions include installing acoustic ceiling panels to absorb sound, using carpeting, and incorporating fabric-covered furniture to reduce noise levels. Proper classroom acoustics are essential for a productive learning environment. By addressing these issues, D&B helps create spaces where students and teachers can focus on effective teaching and learning. Sound is powerful. Physiologically, as our body is over 60% water, we become an ideal vessel for sound to travel through. It’s not surprising that sound has such an impact on us.💡 Research has shown that, when optimised, the acoustics of educational spaces can support learning and mental well-being. Whether students are walking through corridors, filing into an assembly hall, or collaborating in a classroom, they will feel the effect of acoustics. But why does it matter?💭 Read the blog to find out more! https://lnkd.in/e8MuJfKp #AcousticDesign #StudentMentalHealth #ClassroomAcoustics

THE ART AND SCIENCE OF RIGOUR My daughter once reported that Atreya was writing his own science fiction story at school... about a spaceship called the Space Wanderer. It is 3 solar masses in size, and is powered by a Dyson sphere. Atreya is 11 and it must be clarified that he has native speaker level of English. His standard response to what did you do at school Atreya? is - nothing much! I spend an hour for 5 days online with him mostly watching YouTube videos of all kinds for 2 years. He informed me Dyson came from the kurzgesagt space videos. I’m witnessing the pumping done by mums and dads across the school and homeschooling spectrum using traditional rote modes, and wondering if the poor mites will ever catch up with these ideation levels. Like I tell teachers all the time, it’s easy folks, keep it simple you’ll get highly complex and robust applications and outcomes. 😂 A rather catty envious comment came from a 57 year old science educator. “Since I deal with science teaching learning, let me also say that with large internet exposure, kids very easily pick up very big sounding words, without really understanding.... understanding an engine is complex enough, even for a graduate.... And to truly understand what Stephen Hawking says requires decades of learning.” My point was that the large body of knowledge comes to the child from the simplest, easiest, and cheapest of sources. He/ she selects, learns and retains some, uses it at will to the best extent of his/her understanding, not to write a PhD thesis. 😂 it’s all good. If kids looked at child friendly videos on cryogenics, they would use it at that basic level not at the level of advanced space medical studies. We are often insecure about exposing kids to what we don’t know. Or what we know exclusively as a power token. Those videos are a stunning example of Occam’s razor. There are super simple ways of teaching complex stuff that I myself adopt and teach. I have taught teachers how to pick out gerunds from participles in 5 minutes. I have done path breaking work with hundreds of kids. Taught 6 civilisations in 4 months to disadvantaged “failed” kids once, got grade 3 teachers to do 36 poems in a year to make the class autonomous in grade 4 in independent poetry skills, my grammar books will cross your eyes with their rigour - done effortlessly by grade 7 students. I am a past master at the magical art of doing rigorous stuff enjoyably and easily. It’s not a one off but thousands of kids across 4 countries and pan india to rest my case. Now, watch this Kurzgesagt video on the Dyson sphere and see what I mean. Rigour is a learnt habit. Get your kids into the culture without coercion. #rigouraddiction #simpleforcomplexities #occamsrazor #videolearning #customisedabsorption #pedagogy
