We think we’re the first energy company to employ qualified social workers. We'll keep doing what we can to bring bills down for all, but customers facing life's toughest challenges need even more support. We spoke with Katie, our head social worker, and her team, about the critical work they do 👉 octo.ps/social-workers

  • "We helped a pensioner struggling financially who wasn't claiming any benefits he was entitled to. During a home visit, we discovered a pile of unopened letters - one of which was about a missed knee operation from two years ago.

Thankfully, we managed to help him get his benefits and his health back on track."

It is great to promote excellent working practices. However, this shouldn’t be at the expense of acknowledging and addressing other potential failings. Mother’s house sold in December last year the final meter readings were taken and sent to Octopus. An immediate response was received confirming that a credit of £607 was due and would be paid by “..23rd FDecember 2024 ….taking up to 10 working days to get to your bank account.” On 10th January 2025 no payment had been received. Despite the fabled fantastic Octopus customer service, payment is still awaited as Octopus now maintains that inconsistencies with previous readings from when they took over the account from Shell almost 12 months ago (an arrangement directly between Shell & Octopus) mean that the Credit is reduced to £252. Several requests for the matter to be Escalated have been ignored and, despite copying messages to the CEO Greg Jackson, the responses continue to use the same cut and paste, trite and insincere phrases whilst requesting even more time to produce the requested detailed calculations to justify the significant variance. It is disappointing to post negative experiences but in the hope of positive action !

Superb initiative - the need and ability for enegy providers to help, are obvious - but still takes thinking out of the box (aka common sense) to execute. Many others would say "not my area..." One reason i've just moved to Octopus.
