Saying 'once an addict, always an addict' can perpetuate stigma, undermine progress, and impact self-esteem. Recovery is a journey of growth, resilience, and transformation. 🌱✨ Let's focus on empowering those in recovery. Celebrate their achievements, support their continued journey, and use language that uplifts and encourages. Together, we can create a more compassionate and supportive environment for everyone. 🌟 Oh and never refer to someone as an "addict". Being a parent to 2 Autistic/ADHD daughters I understand the challenges they face (not fully, still learning, we are always learning) but I’m also acutely aware as a HR Director the challenges companies face in providing the right environment for people to shine, with or without disabilities. We are all different and work/perform well in different ways, the best thing for any employer is to try and get to truly understand their employees in a non Judgemental way, work towards and hone their strengths and also help nurture and improve any areas of vulnerability (hate the word weakness). It’s not easy but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try.

What has helped me face and heal from the overwhelm of injustice? The answer is simple: the power of being listened to in community. There's something transformative about expressing our feelings with others who, like us, seek to be seen, listened to, and valued. As we join together, we have the opportunity to listen and be listened to, breaking the isolation and understanding that the effects of systemic oppression are not personal, but they do impact us personally. In the face of systemic hurt, the antidote is systemic healing - in a community. You deserve a safe space to share these impacts, which are shared just like the healing process itself. Through the practice of Constructivist Listening, everyone gets a confidential turn to be truly heard. It’s astonishing how rare it is to be listened to without interruption, judgment, analysis, or advice. When was the last time you were listened to like this? Remember, healing in community is the antidote to oppression. #HealingInCommunity #EndOppression

I run Weight Inclusive Alberta @weightinclusiveab, am an advocate for Fat Liberation and am passionate about climate justice! What is your idea of a perfect day? A day where I can be present with the Land, my friends, family and get kitty cat cuddles. What is your favourite part of being a mentor? Getting to connect deeply with people I might not normally otherwise. Sharing this experience has helped me grow as a mentor, friend and person! I have learned so much in this program that has fundamentally shifted the way that I view my experiences with eating disorders. I feel grateful to be part of a team who can share lived experience, which is valuable and overlooked in the recovery field.
