This landmark study was key to launching the modern-day psychedelic renaissance. In 2006, Roland Griffiths and his team at Johns Hopkins published a seminal paper studying the effects of psilocybin in healthy volunteers. They found substantial and sustained positive effects and that psilocybin was overwhelmingly safe when administered in a controlled setting. At a 14-month follow-up, 95% of the study participants ranked the experience as among the top five most meaningful experiences of their lives. 📜 Some research has shown that healthcare providers' positive nonverbal behaviours, such as smiling, enhanced eye contact, or positive tone of voice, lead to lower pain reports. 🩺 To systematically test the placebo effects of healthcare providers’ positive nonverbal behaviours on pain reports, Hojjat Daniali, a researcher from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) (Norway), and collaborators carried out a study supported by the #BIALFoundation, involving a total of 104 participants. Learn more about the project "The role of non-verbal behaviour on placebo and nocebo effects. Psychophysiological experiments" and the main conclusions, in the latest #ScienceStory 👉 bit.ly/SS_PainReports #FundaçãoBIAL #BIALFoundation30Years #ScientificResearch #PlaceboEffect

Fasting interventions can boost momentary mood, but how do they work? In our new publication in J Psychiatr Res, we show that higher fasting levels of ghrelin are associated with an elevated mood in patients with depression as well as healthy participants. Intriguingly, the association with ghrelin levels was even stronger in patients who were not taking antidepressants. We are running and planning ghrelin administration studies to test mood-enhancing effects directly now. Our results highlight the potential of gut-based interventions to improve key symptoms of depression. This work was part of our DFG-funded project on ghrelin and anhedonia and led by the talented Rauda Fahed as an M.D. student and Corinna Schulz as a PhD student. #mentalhealth #gut #food #gutbrain #fasting #mood https://lnkd.in/eXn3DyMw

🔍 Discover the latest #research! Take a moment to read our review of “Water Intake, Hydration Status, and 2-Year Changes in Cognitive Performance: A Prospective Cohort Study” by Stephanie Nishi, Nancy Babio, Indira Paz Graniel, et al., published in BMC Medicine. This study explores the impact of hydration on cognitive performance over two years, highlighting the importance of maintaining adequate hydration, particularly for older adults with metabolic syndrome or obesity. 🧠Key findings suggest that poor hydration may be linked to a significant decline in cognitive function, emphasizing the role of hydration in cognitive health as we age. 📄 Read the full PDF to dive deeper into the findings and insights, and feel free to share it with your colleagues!
