🌍 Soil! It's important because it supports the Earth's ecosystem. It's also the base layer that supports the foundations of buildings. 🚜 And yet much of it is dug out and taken to landfill sites if it's contaminated. But it doesn't need to be! In fact, UK government targets mean sustainable management of soil will be essential by 2030. Our LockedIn® process does just that. It helps brownfield site developers avoid landfill and transportation fees! 👓 Find out more about why we need to divert waste soil from landfill and sustainably manage it in our latest blog 👇🏻 https://lnkd.in/eAG-ka5S #brownfield #brownfieldsites #soil #soilmanagement #developers #landdevelopers #earthworks #landremediation #remediation

Interesting article about the importance of soil to life on this planet and why we should divert waste soil from landfills.

𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐀𝐔𝐖 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐄𝐔 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞 ♻️ Did you know that construction and demolition waste accounts for 50% of total waste in Germany? 😱 While household recycling is important, the real game-changer lies in improving recycling rates for #construction waste. ♻️ An expert team of TAUW Deutschland, in collaboration with colleagues from TAUW Nederland and Milieu Consulting, has just released the final report for the EU project "GROW/2022/OP/0015". In this comprehensive study, we've analyzed data and information on material flows in the construction and demolition sector across all 27 EU member states. The report provides valuable insights into recycling rates, material values, and existing product standards. By improving recycling rates in the construction industry, we can significantly reduce our environmental impact and contribute to a more sustainable future. 🌎 Want to learn more? Historic Milestone Achieved with First Verified Asphalt Recycling Carbon Credits in the U.S - SurfaceCycle, a provider of premier asphalt milling, recycling, and soil stabilization services across the United States, announces a historic milestone: the completion of the first verified asphalt recycling carbon credits (Verified Carbon Units or VCUs) in the United States. This groundbreaking achievement represents a significant advance in promoting sustainability and environmental stewardship within the road construction industry. Through its innovative Cold In-Place Recycling (CIR) technology, we can not only revolutionize asphalt recycling but also spearhead environmental stewardship and resilient sustainability by preventing the release of nearly 29,000 tons of carbon emissions during a recent construction season—equivalent to planting almost 1.5 million trees. Additionally, these soil stabilization services contribute to longer-lasting, more durable roadways by improving soil properties. They reduce the need for frequent repairs and further decrease the environmental footprint. Click the link below to read the full story... https://lnkd.in/didTNERR

What's the problem with landfills? 🗑️ Well, many, but cost for one; as landfill capacity decreases, waste disposal and hauling costs are rapidly increasing in most urban areas. Additionally, landfills are terrible for the environment. According to the EPA, in 2021 landfills in the U.S. emitted an equivalent of 122 million tons of CO2 into the atmosphere, which may be an underestimation. 🌍 💡 A solution to this problem, which can reduce landfill volumes by up to 90 percent and drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions, is Mechanical Biological Treatment, or MBT. MBT has proven itself over the last 35 years throughout the European Union, becoming one of the primary ways to process MSW. Read more about MBT and how GMT is getting involved.

We have noted that several of our clients are unaware of the change below, which directly impacts their projects. While this update may not be hot off the press, it's a game-changer for many in our industry. Since July 1, 2023, the landscape of clean earth disposal has shifted. Clean soil, once levy-exempt, is no longer in that privileged category. These changes carry a financial impact, with disposal fees ranging from $91 to $105 per tonne this fiscal year, in addition to your standard disposal costs. This adjustment has confronted our clients and partners with significant financial implications on their projects. But here's the silver lining: it's now more crucial than ever to classify soils on-site to explore opportunities for reuse. This change, initiated by the Queensland Government, pushes us to think innovatively, encouraging businesses and industries to divert clean earth away from landfills and towards sustainable alternatives. Leverage our expertise to your advantage. Reach out, and we can ensure your soil management remains cost-effective. https://lnkd.in/gi7ermqK

An Agric. Consultant & a Writer 💚 (PhD Student in Agricultural Economics and Environmental Policy) Adequate Food Production & Proper Waste Mgt. Pls 🙏
Sanitary landfill also known as controlled tipping is the practice of waste disposal in which waste is stacked to decay under controlled conditions. Wikipedia Encyclopedia defines it as a site for the disposal of waste materials by burial. Historically, landfills have been the most common methods of organized waste disposal and remain so in many places around the world. #EnvironmentalManagement
