🎬 Queuing Up a Year’s Worth of Video Content in a Day? This week, Perseus held an internal conference in Vancouver, bringing together our global team to connect and share valuable insights. One of the highlights? We hired a videographer and conducted 12 interviews with our leadership team to capture their incredible career journeys with Perseus. Why was this so efficient? 1. Maximized Leadership Team's Time: Everyone was already gathered in one place, reducing the need for extra travel or time commitments. 2. Streamlined Production: By hiring a videographer for one day at a single location, we kept costs down while ensuring consistency. One location and one editing team also drives standardized content. 3. Pre-Planning for Success: We confirmed the Q&A and interview schedules in advance, allowing for smoother execution and enabling us to ask deeper, more impactful questions during the interviews. This is more of a venting post, but I think we need to understand the distinction of the difference style of prodcers. I’ve had the opportunity in many of the positions I’ve held where I had to hire for my team. For clarity my background is digital and social media. Now, I am open to meeting with people who don’t meet the experience of the positions as long as they’re willing to learn and are open to the curve, but I’ve also run into individuals who come from traditional broadcast who look down on the role. An individual I worked with who had a very long stint in digital would talk down on digital and social. He thought cutdown was enough for social. I understand some brands just don’t have the budget, but he merely dismissed it as worthless. A while later this individual unfortunately lost his job. He saw an opening at a place I was working at the time. He reached out and the first thing he said was I saw you had a digital producer role. You know I could do that easily. Hos broadcast hubris was showing. He said since we’ve worked together he delivered one social video for a social channel so he felt he was more than qualified and that it was beneath him and I should put him forward. I don’t think people understand the nuance of social and digital channels well enough and were always viewed as the annoying sibling. He didn’t understand what best practices were. What to watch out for. UI safe zones. The type of content each channel excels at. Unfortunately I could not recommend this person. But I think yeah… I’m venting because digital and social producers get the respect they should. Most of the time, we prefer to film subjects in their normal environment. Context makes the message a lot more digestible and relatable. Interviewing a chainsaw carver in the woods, next to one of her carvings, is a lot more "watchable" than if she was in a studio or an office environment. Understanding the viewer and how they relate to your content is a pillar of marketing. You can have the best and most expensive marketing in the world, but without context and relatability you have nothing.
