Toxicology is the science of poisons, but it's more than that. It's about understanding the behavior of chemicals in the body and the body's response to them. As an Occupational Health Professional, it's crucial to grasp the core principles of toxicology to safeguard our workplace well-being. Two essential concepts in toxicology are toxicokinetics and toxicodynamics. Toxicokinetics deals with the absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion of toxins. Understanding these processes is vital to assess and manage potential risks effectively. Toxicodynamics, on the other hand, uncovers the body's unique response to chemical exposures, turning toxicology into a symphony of intricate interactions. Decoding this symphony empowers us to tailor interventions that resonate with the specific needs of our workforce.
