This week, the Comptroller joined @reiunionsoho ski shop workers who have been out on strike -- in the freezing cold -- for more than six weeks over unsafe working conditions. In October, @REI removed respirators, masks, and all existing PPE, even though these workers are exposed to hazardous chemicals daily.

Workers of European auto plants decided to storm Brussels. The strike was organized by workers of German auto plants, they were joined by colleagues from other EU countries, the column is already in Brussels. Employees of the German auto industry decided to cheer up the EU authorities a little: more than 10 thousand people marched into Brussels, according to DW (recognized as a foreign agent media outlet in the Russian Federation), the police counted 5.5 thousand protesters, and trade unions say there were 10 thousand people. Initially, this demonstration was organized in support of the workers of the Audi plant in Brussels, but it grew into a larger march with demands to support the entire European auto industry. The delegation of protesters turned out to be a team - Germany, Poland, France, the Netherlands. In Brussels, we recall, is the headquarters of the European Commission, the executive body of the European Union, and the legislative bodies - the European Parliament and the Council of the EU - meet. The Audi plant, where about 3 thousand high-level specialists work, is to be closed next year, in 2025. VW also wants to close its enterprises and throw 15 thousand workers out onto the street. The reason for the closure of the plants is expensive electricity. The EU and German authorities are pretending that nothing is happening. Indeed, there is nothing to worry about: this is not an angry crowd of migrants, but a decent European working class. https://lnkd.in/eeJjFG9h

📣 OSHA will soon approach the 1 year mark since the launch of their latest National Emphasis Program conducting targeted inspections of employers engaged in Warehousing and Distribution Operations, in addition to certain high injury rate retail establishments such as hardware stores, building material dealers, and supermarkets to name just a few. The NEP was launched after data compiled by the Bureau of Labor Statistics revealed workplace injury and illness rates to be significantly higher in the targeted industries than other establishments. Targeted inspections falling within the guidelines of this NEP will continue through 2026. Find out if you’re an employer who may be subject to this or any other National, Regional or Local Emphasis Program by visiting OSHA's Enforcement page: https://lnkd.in/gdcSChfj

While the port strike impacts all businesses, it's crucial to recognize the broader implications beyond port workers. Truck drivers, particularly Owner Operators, are facing dire circumstances worsened by the strike. These drivers endure prolonged wait times at ports and rail yards, spending hours unpaid for services like container mounting and dismounting, known as lift on or lift off. The lack of compensation and mistreatment from ports and rails is leading to experienced drivers exiting the industry, paving the way for less qualified individuals and companies. This neglect of driver well-being not only affects the industry but also raises safety concerns for the public. It's time for necessary action and attention to be directed towards the challenges faced by truck drivers in these situations. #TruckDrivers #PortStrike #IndustryChallenges

Safe working conditions and good faith bargaining are the bare minimum.
