I'm thrilled to announce the launch of my policy research paper, "Financial Risk Coverage of India's Commercial Space Launch Industry: Need for Developing Insurance and Reinsurance Capabilities." This significant event is set to take place at the dynamic mach33.aero, located within the CSIR - National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL) Campus in Bengaluru, on April 19th, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm, hosted by India's pioneering space policy think tank, Spaceport SARABHAI (S2). I owe immense gratitude to a stellar group of experts, including Mr. Philip Chrystal, Dr. Ludwig Weber, Dr. Ram Jakhu, and others, whose invaluable insights and meticulous editing have greatly enriched this work. Special thanks to my mentor, Deepika Jeyakodi, for her guidance, and to Dr. SUSMITA MOHANTY, Director General, and Dr. RANJANA KAUL, Secretary General of S2, for their unwavering support. The dedication and hard work of the entire Spaceport SARABHAI team in editing, designing, and bringing this paper to life have been truly remarkable. This paper aims to shed light on the vital financial infrastructures necessary to support and secure India's growing commercial space launch sector. I'm eager to share my insights, engage in meaningful discussions, and connect with peers and enthusiasts within the space industry. 🚀 #SpaceportSarabhai #SpacePolicy #CommercialSpace #SpaceLaunch #SpaceInsurance #FinancialRisk #SpaceTech #Innovation #PolicyResearch #SpaceIndustry #ThinkTank

Victory Live has partnered with Aeries Technology to establish a new Global Capability Center (GCC) in Hyderabad, India. This initiative is part of a broader trend where Hyderabad has emerged as a key hub for Global Capability Centres due to its strategic advantages such as abundant talent, improved living standards, lower costs, and supportive government policies. The center aims to enhance operational efficiencies and foster innovation by centralizing global operations and leveraging Hyderabad's growing R&D capabilities. The new GCC will support Victory Live's global operations by consolidating functions and driving innovation, particularly through AI and data analytics. This aligns with Hyderabad's significant role in the GCC sector, as evidenced by its substantial share of office space leasing for GCCs and its position as a preferred location for global investors. Skyroot Aerospace, a Temasek-backed spacetech firm, reported a nearly two-fold revenue increase to ₹29 crore in FY24, primarily from interest income. However, the company's losses widened by 15% to ₹55.5 crore, driven by a 34.5% rise in expenses, totaling ₹84.5 crore. The increase in costs is attributed mainly to higher employee benefits, which rose to ₹26.9 crore, and R&D expenses, which saw a slight increase to ₹12.8 crore. Founded in 2018, Skyroot successfully launched India's first privately-developed rocket in 2022 and is working towards the launch of its Vikram-1 orbital vehicle by the end of this year. #SkyrootAerospace #Spacetech #RevenueGrowth #Vikram1 #Temasek Read more 👇 https://lnkd.in/g76ikf9q

Quote; "We’re incredible innovators – Pearse, Rutherford, Britten, Hamilton – but often, our innovation is commercialised somewhere else by someone else. Much of our capacity to innovate is housed in the group of companies I talked about the other day [see link here: https://lnkd.in/gc6e_tjq] – that’s why #ID2070 is focused on unlocking light-weight knowledge led exports for them. If we can do that, the knowledge jobs we’ll create and the momentum we’ll foster will more than solve our economic growth challenges. We don’t need to have the Wright Brothers – we just need to create the conditions where our modern-day Richard Pearses are encouraged to create economic success." - Simon Walker Ps isn’t the irony is glaring: Pearse's choice to invest in property over business mirrors a common dilemma in New Zealand – opting for real estate over entrepreneurship, despite having the potential for flight. It's a testament to the enduring allure of property investment, even for those with lofty ambitions, here in Aotearoa New Zealand.
This is Richard Pearse. His claim to fame? The inventor and pilot of the first* powered flight, on the Canterbury Plains in 1903. He beat the Wright brothers by 9 months. Unfortunately, that’s where the comparison ends. The Wright brothers founded “The Wright Company” which in 1916 merged with “The Martin Company”. The name Martin is the Martin in Lockheed-Martin, one of the US’s leading Aerospace companies and an S&P500 constituent. Richard Pearse ended up moving to Milton in Otago in 1911, where it was too hilly to fly – so he stopped. Much of his experimental equipment was thrown away, but he still kept innovating. In the 1930s and 40s (presumably trying to solve for the hilly country) he was working on a short-takeoff convertiplane with a tilting rotor and folding wings, which you can see in MOTAT today. He passed away in 1953, with the most successful business venture of his career having been building three houses in Christchurch and living off the rentals. This parable is an interesting one for New Zealand innovation. We’re incredible innovators – Pearse, Rutherford, Britten, Hamilton – but often, our innovation is commercialized somewhere else by someone else. Much of our capacity to innovate is housed in the group of companies I talked about the other day – that’s why #ID2070 is focused on unlocking light-weight knowledge led exports for them. If we can do that, the knowledge jobs we’ll create and the momentum we’ll foster will more than solve our economic growth challenges. We don’t need to have the Wright Brothers – we just need to create the conditions where our modern-day Richard Pearses are encouraged to create economic success. *First is a somewhat contested claim. Clément Ader flew 50m 20cm above the ground in 1890, and the Wright Brothers had three-axis controls for their aircraft. Pearse’s claim is as good as any, though.
